Save the Tigers!

I signed up for the Wild Tiger Run without knowing much about Tiger Conservation.

It's a new run, it's for charity, it's for the love of animals (something close to my heart), the tee design looked quite nice, so I signed up.

The Wild Tiger Run 2013 was the first of such event.  Organised by MYCAT (Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers) - an alliance of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS), TRAFFIC Southeast Asia, Wildlife Conservation Society-Malaysia Programme and WWF-Malaysia.

Main objective of the run is to raise funds for future projects and activities.  More importantly (in my opinion), it has helped to raise awareness on Tiger and wildlife conservation.

I learned some important points at the mini expo on the race pack collection day.
There are only 500 wild tigers left in the whole of Malaysia.

What can we do ?

Stay away from:

  1. Wildlife based traditional medicines
  2. Wildmeat dishes e.g. bear paw soup?
  3. Wildlife souvenirs e.g. tiger claw? Ivory?
  4. Wildlife pets e.g. Star tortoise, Tockay gecko
Report wildlife crimes to :

019 356 4194 (report@malayantiger.net)
Information needed:
  1. What is the crime?
  2. Where? eg Name of shop, address, etc
  3. Date & Time of Incident

Meanwhile, we had a good time at the run.  I'm proud I ran 10km for them Tigers :)

Those who didn't run can purchase it for RM10.

Even my cat loves it...

Lovely air brush painting at the event

MADEs can cook !

Had I mentioned how amazing the members of M.A.D.E are?  I'm not saying this just because they are my fellow MADEs and friends, in fact I actually do not know this bunch as well as  I'd like to.

Only 2 of the bunch were my ex class mates, even that we have not met for years until M.A.D.E was formed.

I did mention in previous posts how I was awed by the level of commitment and dedication despite everyone's busy and hectic lives at work and at home.

You'd probably have an idea  if you've been following this site.  If not..let's just say M.A.D.E consists of a bunch of friends who put aside personal differences and life commitments to come together hoping to Make Some Difference.

Sometimes I can't help but wonder if I'm half as good as this bunch of wonderful souls.

M.A.D.E raised over RM23,000 in the recent charity drive to support of the Paitan Kindergarten project in Sabah.  A representative was just in Paitan few weeks ago (trip was organised by The Catholic Parish of St Francis Xavier, Singapore) to present the cheque to Sr Dorothy  (who was responsible for starting the first kindergarten seven years ago, to date, she has started eight kindergartens!).

We met up recently for a Thanksgiving and pre Christmas potluck dinner.  It was also an opportunity for us to catch up on EL's experience in Paitan.  As expected, it was an unforgettable lifetime experience.  I'll post some pics on her behalf in another post, if I can get hold of some.  No promises.  Alternatively, wait till March, if I gather enough courage to tag along with her on her next trip to Paitan :)

Meanwhile...yes..I was saying this bunch of MAD(E) people are so talented.  Look what they prepared for the potluck :

Awesome Prawn Salad

Amazingly delicious Chilli Beef

Garlic Roasted Chicken YUMMY

I think this is Caesar Salad

I never liked Lasagna..but..this is unbelievably NICE!

This didn't have a name...but it was really really nice..think: bacon, cheese, potato, sausages..and lot's more
Butter cake & Chips with Salsa dip..O M G

What happend to my dish?

Well...I did a second attempt on the Oven baked Baby Ribs.

It looked quite good actually....when it came out of the oven.

Agreed?

So..I'm never really that good or even cared about food presentation.  What I did was..just cutting them up, put in the some plastic container..and off I went :D

You can imagine..how Out of Place my ribs were...when put next to all the above.

SOBSSSSS :'(

Here's EL helping me to rearrange the ribs onto a nice clean plate :D

We stole some leaves and baby tomatoes from Sharm's salad...and voila ...!

Char Siew anyone?

 LOL LOL ...

M.A.D.E Charity Sale : Done!

As mentioned in previous post, whatever is the total amount raised I shall declare it as a success.  Congratulations and Thank You (on behalf of the Paitan village) to the MADEs team and all who contributed or helped in one way and another.

Items donations were over whelming.  The team worked hard for months from collection to transporting to storing to sorting to selling the items.

Turn out was good.  Thanks to the Centre Point for the wonderful venue and everyone who helped to promote and spread the word out.

Toys and kids books were the best sellers!

Next up is the M.A.D.E. Music Madness - this Sunday, November 4th, 6pm onwards at Mandolin Bar, Plaza Glomac, Kelana Jaya.

RM50 per ticket - Ticket includes live music from at least 5 great bands including: Vijay David, Vishnu and friends, Raymond Chia, Alphabeat, Wild Roses, ChiliApi, Errol D'Cruz, Allan Perera & Jerry, Alphonse Jerome & Clinton and more, pub grub dinner & the first drink plus automatic entry for the lucky draw!

We are targeting to raise at least RM10,000 from both events.  Can we achieve it?

Stay tuned :)

6k

Done with the much talkedl about charity sale.  It was tiring but worthwhile.  Crowd was very good.  I haven't got the official count on the total amount raised.  Whatever the amount is..I shall declare it a success and job well done.

A man was asking me about what and why we are doing this, etc.

He asked..how much can we get from all this work?
I told him that we managed to raise over RM6k few years ago.

His reaction was.. 6k? What can you do with 6k?

Well..it was 6k from free donated items and a lot of hard work. And because of that, parents of a few less fortunate kids were relieved temporarily from heavy medical and therapy bills.

Will you donate 6k to the unfortunate, Uncle?

Cars!

Have I not told you there are lot's of cool stuff at the M.A.D.E charity sale.

I bought this for my little nephew who loves cars.

Please don't sue me for criminal breach of trust : D

I posted a pic of the other second remote control cars that I collected.  All are without the remote control though..so I posted to test if there will be any interest.

Surprisingly, there were a few enquiries.

In fact..as of press time..all considered sold :D

One guy wanted to buy all four, I had to double triple confirm that they understood that these are all second hand toys.  He said ..his kid loves to bang toys, so..second hand first hand..no difference to him. In fact, second hand is cheaper to bang. Lol...

2012 M.A.D.E Charity Sale : Books and more...

Reminder :
The M.A.D.E. Charity sale is happennig this Saturday, 27th October, Centrepoint, Bandar Utama, 10am onwards.

We've been overwhelmed with massive donations from friends as well as the public.  To date, we should have about over 3,000 items collected and sorted out for the sale.

At times it did get a bit out of hand, as there are only a few of us zooming around town in our not so big cars collecting stuff.  Some are really huge loads.  I admire my fellow MADEsters who had work so much harder despite their own busy lives.

So..ya..do drop by.

Hint:  We have MORE than books ...

For example, toys like this...and many many more !
Army Set : Original Price AUD4 : Sold for RM5

Charity is Hard Work

This photo shows..how much hard work we had to put in for the upcoming M.A.D.E charity sale.

Hahaha

About three more weeks to the sale day. I'd say about 70% of the stuff sorted out.  A few more collections to be done over the next one or two weeks.  It will be a full day's work on the sale day itself.  Hopefully the returns will be good :)

Meanwhile here are some of the goodies that will be available at the sale.

You will love these if you're a horror/occult fan. Find them at the Fiction Section

Enid Blyton anyone?

Some fun stuff for the kids..

More about the MADE Charity Sale

Find us on Facebook

As mentioned on previous post (HERE) all proceeds from the sale will go to the Kindergarten Project in Paitan, Sabah.

In Paitan, six hours away from Kota Kinabalu, villagers live under the barest of conditions; often having to rely on rainwater for their daily water supply and surviving on one basic meal a day.  The remoteness of location makes their stories and plight unheard of by most urban dwellers.  The journey to Paitan, accessible only by four-wheel drive or on a small boat on the crocodile-infested river, is a grueling and often life-threatening one.

It is this very journey that Franciscan nun, Sister Dorothy Laudi has been making since 2005.

She goes back and forth from the big cities into the interiors of Sabah, hoping to minister comfort and care to the poor.   Sister Dorothy soon realized that one of the greatest challenges in these remote villages was the lack of early education for the children.  What started as a small desire to gather and teach children has resulted, in an amazing outreach of seven kindergartens serving over 170 children, seven years on.

“The needs are many, and the work is sometimes exhausting”, she says, “but I will struggle on”.

MADE was deeply moved by Sister Dorothy’s work with the community in Paitan. This year’s MADE fundraising project will benefit the 7 kindergartens and their growing needs.  It is a small gesture to support Sister Dorothy as she “struggles on” in her good fight to educate those who have no access to an education.

We are now in the midst of collecting as much goodies as possible for the sale. I have in hand some books, soft toys,  etc.

I gave these cuties a bath recently, bought some cling wrap from a hypermarket and was supposed to wrap each one up nicely for the sale.

Take a look....

Compared that with what the other MADE member did..

=.="
