Pin my tail

Spotted this at my childhood best friend's 7 yr old daughter's birthday do.

Do you believe that the mommy did this by hand?

I've been to numerous kids party.  Some had clowns, mickey mouse, magicians... strangely this pony left me the deepest impression.  Probably didn't cost as much as a clown or magician.

Looks like mommy made full use of her in-born talent to make the kids happy.  *loves*

I've known this pal since we were eight, she'd always been good in arty farty stuff, unlike me. I absolutely hated art and craft.

My Amazing Friend

Whenever we, friends, sit down together, typically women, we'd start sharing the latest news in our life, work, family, kids, babies, husbands bla bla bla.

More often than not, we'd talk / bitch about our little problems ...just for the sake of releasing some stress, supposedly.  That's what friends are for anyway.

I just had a good catch up session just now.  It's been some time since January.  As usual, we started catching up asking each other about work, life, family, etc.

Then, we startted catching on this friend who's been going through a rough time since CNY.  In short, her mom who has a pre-existing Parkinson's condition had a fall in Dec/Jan, went for a hip replacement surgery just before CNY, after surgery there was a drastic behaviour change that indicated signs of advanced Alzheimer & Dementia.  Doctors couldn't explain the reason behind the drastic change.

Since then it's been a roller coaster ride.

Imagine the struggle of caring for a loved one who is not only physically challenged but mentally challenged too.  I don't think I want to go into detail.  Let's just say every damn thing happened at the same time. Tough for the patient and the loved one as well.

A fractured arm to hip replacement to disability to dementia leading to extreme behaviour and temperamental difficulties.

Either one of the above is enough to create a lot of inconvenience, worries, sleepless nights, financial burden, you name it all.  Now multiply these by 1,000.

And yet, this amazing friend of mine can still put on a cheerful disposition while sharing with us her experiences.

None of use bothered to raise any of our little problems for the rest of the night.

Friends will be Friends

Source: etsy.com via elifesl on Pinterest

I met up with an old friend from college yesterday.   We met around 4pm.
I thought we'd be done in about 2 hours..then I can go home and have light dinner before hitting the gym.

Somehow when chatting with old friends..time passes very quickly.

We were at Plan B from 4 till 6 plus..  then decided to walk around for a while..then walked into Marmalade for dinner at around 7 :D

If not because I insist on going to the gym..I think we could have continued till supper !

Friends will be Friends

Had a nice meet-up with some good buddies from my first company today.  We've known each other for about 15 years!  Not easy to maintain such good long lasting friendship especially from work.

I'm blessed *heart*

Not only that, I also enjoyed an awesome Sunday evening playing badminton with two school mates (plus spouses).  The last time we played together was probably more than 20 years ago!  It's just awesome awesome to be able to play together again after so loooong.  What's even more amazing is we believe our skills are as good if not better than school days :D Secondly, from the pics that we took..we don't seem to have 'aged' :D:D:D

Lena which I don't meet so regularly (last met was about 2 years ago) looked damn good when she arrived. "Oi..how come you like you are still 14??" - I asked. Her answer was - "Hehe..I go to the gym mah"

I was like.."duh..I also go to the gym lor..but .."

Lols.. anyway..we had fun. Will probably do it again...with a few others hopefully.

A friend posted this comment in a pic of another gathering
"do you realize our friendship as x school mates are very different? we can chat & chat & chat like old buddies. and we don't actually meet up regularly..."

That's what the song meant by "Friends will be Friends".

Doesn't matter if the song is this :

or this :

Haha..which one do you prefer?
I think the first one by Scooter is so much more fun =)

A True Friend

Many people will walk in and out of your life,
but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart

I like this quote alot.  Posted in FB recently..and got a few cranky comments ..as usual.  I believe it touched some hearts..or got many wondering if they had ever managed to leave any footprints in anyone's heart?

True friend or not, foot print or no foot print...it's really very subjective.  We cannot consciously control how we can be a true friend to someone.  It all comes from the heart.  Even if I'd think I've offered all I can as a friend and I deserve to be a true friend with footprints in the hearts of my friends...they may not think so.  And I can't control what they think of me.

I would say..don't bother..to be too conscious about it.  It comes from within...when we are sincere and truthful it will show and the foot prints will reach the respective hearts.

I was caught off guard when Fafa Asked me why I didn't think of visiting her when I was in the same area yesterday (playing with Bobo).  Opps!  I had to be truthful that I totally didn't think about it ...he he. Simply because the highlight of the day was Bobo the dog and she's never an animal person..bla bla bla.  Excuses :D

That wasn't the first time, I was also caught when CLK 'confronted' me on why I didn't invite her to a lunch gathering recently.  Again..truthfully she wasn't in the mind :D  My excuse was..she doesn't 'appear' in the 'network' often enough...so she wasn't top of mind. Lol..what a lame excuse.  She concluded that she had fail to leave a footprint in my heart..therefor non existent

omg.

I must be such a horrible friend!

Anyway..as mentioned..it's a very subjective matter.  Non measurable.  Non quantifiable.  I will just remain as who I am.  And act from my heart.  If..it always so damn difficult to be nice and thoughtful ....it means ..naturally I'm a lousy  friend.  full stop.

Another quote that I like goes something like this ~ Friends are those rare people who ask how we are and then wait to hear the answer.. the acid test that indicates if you are a Friend starts here =)

Do you ever stop to ask "How are you?"

If you do..

Do you wait and pay attention to the answer ?

oh..by the way, today is my childhood best friend's birthday..and I remembered to send her a SMS early in the morning. Yay.

Single Friends

Recently a friend made a spontaneous remark that got me thinking for a while. "I noticed that you like to hang out with Females.  Single Females particularly" she MSN-ed.

My flow of thoughts went in the line of something like this :

1. Do I? Why is that so?
2. Well, Married Females wouldn't have time to hang out with me right?
3. And...most Married Females that I know wouldn't do things that I do right?
4. Oh..I think she meant "How come I don't hang out with Single Men instead"
5. "Single men gives me a higher chance of finding a partner or husband instead of Single Females"
6. Ya,.I think that was what she was trying to get at!

Come to think of it...yeah..it's quite true.  Most people that I spend time with are Singles and Female.  Even my father noticed!  Lol.

And in Facebook, the only other social platform that I'm on, I noticed an obvious trend.

I have about 194 friends in Facebook.  Out of these only about a third have some form of interactions with me - defined as those that I know they pay attention to me uploads (at the very least).
Note : Family members / Relatives were excluded from this analysis.

And, you know what, out of these who are supposedly 'interested' enough to pay attention to me - only 2 are Single Men but 12 are Married Men!  The rest are Females.

Well, only 2 in 5 of my Facebook friends are Men to begin with and majority are Married

Staying in touch

When was the last time you had casual chats on the phone ? Excluding love bird chats.  Do you still chat on the phone often?  I have not done so for a long time.  Most of my calls now are short and purposeful.  Well, may be a little longer when there are hot gossips...

I've been missing a friend's calls. The first call was on Tuesday evening when I was having a hair cut.  I didn't pick up the call but sent a message later to apologise.  There was another missed call yesterday evening when I was at the gym.  I didn't call back but sent another message much later after settling down at home.

You must be wondering why I didn't call back immediately?  Well...erm..she didn't leave a message to say it's urgent.  Plus, I know my friend well, she has a habit of calling us up in the evening to catch up when she is driving home from work.  So..I kind of know..it's nothing important.  My bad...

When I messaged last night, I explained that "I'm normally 'busy' in the evenings, so please leave a message if it's urgent"  In her reply, she said..she is only free when she drives...haha.  True..cos when she reached home..she has to care for her daughter.

But then,..come to think of it..when is the right time to chat huh?  Day time is no go as I don't chit chat at work. MSN chat , yes..but not on the phone.  Evenings..I'd normally be driving somewhere or at the gym..how to chat.  Weekends..also on the move most of the time.

Now, that doesn't mean I'm a loner.  MSN, FB, WhatsApp, SMS are current tools to stay in touch in our busy lives.

Physical interaction is still key though, that's why it is so important to make sure to meet up once in a while to catch up...no matter how busy your daily lives are.  It's really good for the soul to get away from the routine..and be with different people, doing different things.  E.g I was taking a post marathon break from workouts / gym on Monday, hence, I took the opportunity to spend some time with my nephew at my sis place.  Co-incidentally it was his birthday..so we had a quiet cosy celebration.  Nothing fancy but everyone's happy.

Long time ago, I was asking SY if she can make it to a gathering.  She said that she will be busy with..this and that..etc.  I told her... "be careful not to stay away for too long, cos you don't want to be out of touch and without friends 20 years down the road, when your kids are all grown up"

Will be meeting some buddies for dinner tonight.  Thanks to PPL for organising =) our truly reliable organiser.  We are hopeless without her.  We have not met for so long because our PPL had been busy.

Oh.I must find time to visit my old school friend who had her first delivery a month ago!  Only have this weekend to do so or else it will be after the Sri Lanka trip. That will be too much of me !

Busy weekend ahead..

Zhi Mui in a Chinese Wedding

It was all tiring but fun.

A good friend got married. When it's a good friend, it means our 'work and contribution' will be required but greatly appreciated.  From being the honorary 'zhi mui' (sisters to the bride) to photography services to reception services. So..you are right to imagine that the day starts very early in the morning till..late. Yesterday, I left the house around 7.30am and only got home around midnight.

My main task was to develop an audio slide show from the morning tea ceremony session to be shown during the dinner at night.  Ideally, I should be taking photos as well but since I do not own a DSLR and there many other DSLR-ers around I can take a back-end role in this area, phew.  It sure was a tough job, especially for the main photographer.

Other zhi mui's main roles..include:
..planning the itenary and games to 'entertain' the groom before allowing him to 'take' the bride
..key 'negotiator' with the groom entourage
..assisting the bride with safe keeping of gifts / jewelleries/ tokens received and to be given out
..guest arrival management at dinner reception
..cash (tokens from guests) counting and safe keeping

Oh boy..I think I have the lightest task :P  though..I had my fair share of 'stress'...i.e. my task started earlier before the actual day which include testing and exploring the movie making software to ensure I am familiar with the requirements.  In fact, I did up one show way before the actual day using earlier pictures from the Registration of Marriage. That was good as it prepares me for the actual day..since there will not be time for trial and error on the actual day.

Despite so, it wasn't as smooth as I wanted it to be.

Firstly, my external hard disk crashed . again.  FYI,  the previous  crashed too when I was doing the same task for another wedding in December!  This time..the song that I needed for the slide show is in the unaccessible hard disk :s ..so..it was all frenzy ..calling up different parties to try to get another copy of the song

Secondly, the main photographer took longer than expected to convert his raw formats to jpeg. By the time I got the 500+ photos it was already about 3pm. We needed to leave for the restaurant at 5.30pm.
Learning ~ may not be a good idea to use the main photographers pics?
Secondly, I personally find it better to get to choose from different sets of pictures from more than one camera (did so in the previous wedding) although this means more time needed to go through hundreds of pictures from 3 or 4 different cameras !

FYI, one song is only about 3+ mins long..hence, we only need about 70 pics to fit into a song .  Imagine..going through 500 pics to choose 70 :D

Once the pictures were shortlisted and arranged in the desired sequence, I could afford to relax a little  as the rest of the work will be done by the software.  If there is spare time , I can play around to customise the motion and zoom and whatever not.  The technical staff at this restaurant requested for DVD copy ..since I was there early I had more than enough time to do that.

Just me and the software and the machine =) while the rest of the gals were stressing over the guests seating and ushering.

Oh..my secondary role was to tag alongside the bride as the temporary photographer using my little LX3, main photographer was caught in traffic ...lol.

..sounds tiring?
It was fun though...all for a good friend. And I'm very sure she appreciates it.  Oh..we do get 'paid' in the form of 'ang pow' ...as a small token of appreciation.  It's not the money that counts...it's the friendship and togetherness.

No doubt, all of us have our own busy lives at work and home...and we may all eventually move on heading to separate directions and our paths may or may not meet again...but the sweet memories will always be in the heart.

It's the Heart that counts. Deep inside we know these zhi mus are out there ever ready to offer their time, eyes, ears, shoulders...anytime, anywhere.

*loves*

Missing school days...

Stumbled on this song when I was surfing radio channels..such a familiar tune.

It was probably from the 80s or 90s..during school days probably.  Brings back fond memories, those were the good old days..I think we used to sing to this tune a lot, can't remember when, where or with who ...but the little memories that was left..sure felt good.

Back to school

Attended a simple event on Saturday, organised by my secondary school's alumni association. The turn out was not too bad at all with a good mix of representatives from the 70's right up to the 90s. Cool~

The theme was : Health Walk @ Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, one of the more prominent garden lake in the city.

For me..this is the right location for the occasion..cos I used to hang out here alot when I was young.  The flat I was staying in was near by, we used to come here for morning or evening walks.  My dad used to bring us here for evening outings too...this is where I cried like a baby when he forced me to jog with him..not allowing me to stop when i wanted to :'(

When we were bigger, my bro and I played truant by lying to our parents about coming here to jog but in actual fact we went to the McD nearby to have beef burgers :P

So..anyway, we were here on a beautiful Saturday morning.  Many were late..we were suppose to register ourselves at 7am..I only arrived around 7.30..some at around 8, some even later.  Some got lost but eventually arrived.  Malaysian time indeed.

We had a great time though.  There were quite a handful of us from the same year or  a year or two  older.  It would be more fun if more came.

Imagine a group with some big difference in age but yet we share one commonality..for instance, a lady told me she graduated in 1971, but I wasn't even born then! We share one commonality though - we were from the same school.  But whoa..she looks damn good for her age..what an inspiration.

I also chatted with some seniors who are 2-3 years older, don't think I've spoken to some of them before in school..but familiar faces. Just added one in FB cos she is into running as well :)

Most of my closer friends (whom I kept in touch and meet up often in recent years) didn't manage to make it, so I ended up catching up with those that I have not hang out with for many many years.

We stayed back to chit chat over coffee and snacks at a small stall under the tree by the lake. Somethng I have not done for ages...in this Coffee Bean and Starbucks era.

We chatted like old days..

I was the only Chinese..which is so rare to happen in my current life, but, this was very common in school.  Zarina was my partner in class during the final two years.  Norhayati used to sit behind me ..and we were school mates since primary and we were both prefects in secondary.  There is also Rita, also knew here since primary and we were best friends before.  Faizah..knew her since primary too....played badminton with her before ..and sat behind me in one of the class.

Fond memories....

I have funny friends..

It is the time of the year again.  Friends and family are planning gatherings and get-together during Christmas, New Year's eve..etc.  At this lifestage..this is the only time of the year to catch up.

Met a relative at a wake recently..and she was so right when she said..that most of the time..we only get to see everyone on two types of occasions..either 'celebrations' or 'when someone is seriously ill or passes away".

So true.

So..let's make the best of this season...or better still ...do try harder not to meet only on special occasions ya.

Anyway..I was saying..I have funny friends.  We were in the midst of planning a get-together this coming NY day.  As usual..it takes a couple of email exchanges to get things done.

One of the mail came in this way:

I can bring chairs (5 enough?) / need mahjong? I also need to bring the gate barrier so my girl cannot climb up down.  Also can we try to limit rubbish this time.. be more environmental?

This starts of with bringing big plastic bag to wet market to put all dry food into this (so to save on small plastic bags )

paper plate / cup - each limit to one, write your name..
Those couple - only entitle to one cup, share share so more bonding..
Those below 3 below - use own bottle

no waste food, either we finish it or give to mich's beagles..

Hilarious!!!

Brief answer from Mich..was even more hilarious:
my beagles dont eat table scraps!!! Sorry!!

Merry Christmas & Happy 2011 everyone!

You Are Family

An old friend asked me about how comfortable I am with Facebook.

I told her that I've been using Facebook for a long time and I'm still very much into it.  Being friends for so long I can sense and know that she may not like the 'open-ness' of it ..not surprising as many people feel the same way too.

So..i suggested to her "Well, you can stop addin friends and change the settings to allow only ME and family to interact with you"

Her answer was .."You Are family"

That's one of the nicest thing anyone had ever said to me :-)

Thank You All

I was trying to recall how I celebrated my Birthday last year. Let me check the history..brb..the wonders of blogging - found an entry HERE , now I have some vague memory.

One of the ocassion was a lunch at D'italianne Kitchen before taking my friends for a spin in my brand new car. Yea...got the new car a few days before my birthday last year...what a fantastic birthday present :-P

Co-incidentally the office birthday treat this year was in D'italianne too.

I was initially a little down this year, feeling somewhat lost and depressed that so much time had gone by, I felt ..left behind. Felt better after reading an article HERE.  The article reminded me of the significance of celebrating a birthday.  One of the point made was : Celebrating a birthday acknowledges the progress you have made, the blessings you have received, and the goals you have achieved in the past twelve months

So I celebrated : )  As I commented in facebook.. I celebrated five days before and was still celebrating five days after :D

Had a finale dinner last Friday..okie..to be exact..3 days after...hehe.  PPL asked me if I want a cake.  I told her that..she shouldn't ask me..it should be a surprise ..right?

They bought some cupcakes instead.

They are so pretty. Although it's not a whole cake..but they are so cute..I didn't have the heart to eat them.  And they did make me happy.  Thank you gals : )

Being the BD gal..I assumed I can choose first..so I chose the cutest teddy cupcake. By the way, the cupcakes are from Delectable

Thank You all for being there for me : ) I enjoyed each and everyone of your company..regardless of whether it was five days before, during the day and or three days after.  Great having all of you around !

Poor teddy is all alone now ...

Nissan Latio Sport- 10,000km Service

RM377.25 - that's how much I paid for today's service. Bl**dy expensive.  Can't help but feel a bit ripped off?

RM103 Labour Service
  • Std lube service - RM40.00
  • Wheel alignment - RM28.00
  • Wheel balancing - RM35.00
RM269.10 Spare Parts:
  • Oil filter - RM30.50
  • Oil - RM56.10
  • Oil pan washer - RM2.50
  • Valclean-RM85.00
  • Octane booster - RM25.00
  • Hospower - RM50.00
  • Motor flush - RM20.00

Sigh.
Despite so, I have no regrets having the car.  Still loving it.  The drive is even more smoother by now.  Fuel Consumption is also improving.  Will do another post on FC another time.  Gan who was thinking about getting the same car asked me one interesting question (on top of many other questions)..."if I were to choose all over again, will I buy the same car?"

Answer ---Yes I will!

On a separate note, I had a good day today.  Chris came to pick me up for lunch at the service centre *grin* I suggested that we head to Petaling Street for lunch. I wanna eat the famous curry mee and Madras Lane. lol.  To my surprise..Chris agreed to go!  She came fro, Cheras you know?  Have I not mention that I have wonderful friends?

After lunch she drove me to Mid Valley..!  Just because I needed to redeem a D&G free gift expring this month only to find out that stock has ran out.  Bummer! We window shopped for a while..and guess what..we hopped over to Bangsar Village for something that I was craving for months - Theobroma's Princess of Iceland - it's the BEST~

Life's great ^.^
Took a break from gym today...very tired after 3 days of BC in a row.
Tomorrow?  Quite bz too..rpm (... if I can wake up), go over to the new house to measure a fixture, short meeting in the office, go to sunway pyramid Kian Classic and dinner with the gals in Puchong at night.

I'm tired already ..and the weekend has only just begun. Ha ha.

Loose Sand

YAT POON SAN SAH!

Haha.

The above is a Cantonese phrase, when literally translated it says A TRAY OF LOOSE SAND.

Hahaha.

The above describes us very well when our dear PPL (Daydreamer) is not around to 'serve' as our organiser cum event manager.  Oh we miss you so much PPL.  FYI, PPL is away for maternity leave after giving birth to her precious baby boy in September.  All these years..especially after most of us went separate ways, we rely on PPL so much on the littlest but important things...

..organising random get together lunch or dinner
..reminding & organising birthday dinners
..organising holiday trips
..buying gifts for special ocassions
..recommend great places to eat
..and MANY MORE

Me in particular..I miss travelling with her where she will take care of everything from booking tickets & accomodation to leading me to great places to visit and most importantly to EAT.  Wooot..simply blissful! I also miss having almost an ever ready and available kaki to call upon when ever I feel like going out of the way on eating spree ...e.g. having curry laksa for lunch in China Town to having clay pot loh see fun in Jln Sultan to having Bak Kut Teh in Klang ....and the list goes on.

We are literally YAT POON SAN SAH without you.  We have not gone out for dinner since you went on leave! We missed Connee's B'day dinner in September.  And Jane's B'day dinner in October.

Sigh..what do we do without PPL.

A wonderful day

Hi. I'm back.  How was your day?  Mine was wonderful! Wish there will be more days like this...a day full of fun and laughter with old friends ..so nice to have this bunch back..just like old days.  I'm talking about my old school mates.  We met up at a Diwali open house.  Too bad I'm not putting up the group pic here. It's an awesome pic!  Sorry ...only available in Facebook.

It was a record turn up by the way.  Not too bad at all.  Especially...when the host ...ahem...is well known for not remembering ANYONE.  Thanks to Facebook for reconnecting us again.  No doubt we aren't and weren't best of friends now nor then.  In fact..to be honest..amongst all who turned up....we were not really 'same gang' during school days.  But heck...we are all grown up now...just enjoy the fun la.  How often do you get to have all different races ...same age....together with husbands, parents and kids..all under one roof!  You don't even see this kind of harmony in a Barisan Nasional gathering. Pardon me.

Too bad...most had to leave after about two hours.  And there were so many people, kids..didn't really get to talk much.  But it was really a great gathering.  Looking forward to the next one.  Christmas..hopefully.

After the gathering..I went over to sis' place ..donno what I did there..then we went over to bro's place to play with the kids.  Chill and chill.  Then  all of us..kids and adults went out for tea at Old Town.  Chill again.  Took some nice pics with Danial and Angie with sis' Iphone.  Still waiting for her to post in Facebook.

Guess what's missing from my day today? He he...no gym!

Basically..it feels good to be doing something different.  Nothing super exciting ..just different from A Typical Saturday e.g. gym, brunch, bla bla bla.

By the way..I couldn't wake up for early breakie with Dad.  Only got up around nine :-p  Sis took him for a nice lunch after I left for the open house.  Had a light porridge dinner with him just now.  and..erm..we dropped by the night market after that..and erm..we bought char kuey teow.  Now..damn full and bloated!

BACK TO THE GYM TOMORROW!

A Special Day

7th September 2009 was a very special day. Two of my closest friends became Mothers for the first time within 12 hours apart. Received PPL's good news in the morning about the arrival of her baby boy at around 10am. So happy for her. I decided then to check with Trish who was suppose to be due around the same time. Guess what..Trish was also in the labour ward! What a beautiful day :D Trish delivered her baby gal about 12 hours later :)

Hmm...this friend of mine. Her wedding day also clashed with another good friend (Jane). Being her kiasu self she had informed and invited us to her special day like 24 months ahead of time..so I had no choice but to skip Jane's wedding.

Now..some years later she gave birth on the same day as another close friend of mine! tsk. tsk. tsk. If they ever have full moon or birthday parties for their kids..I will be caught again *rolling eyes*

By the way...today is also a 'special' day for me ~ lol.

I swiped $500 deposit for this package with Kian Classic.

The consultant will be coming take the measurements on Sunday. Gasp! The total cost will be at at least 11k that is if I take everything i.e. kitchen cabinet, 3 warddrobes and the TV cabinet.

Shall I still get the Ray Ban??
