I survived the Energiser (10km) Night Race

So..I did something different this time.  What was it like?

Being a first timer, it was an anxious wait before the flag off. As Gan said.."we just wanna get it over and done with".

The flagging off was cool and fun! But Jenny says there are much better and fun ones..tempt tempting me to join more marathons *blink*

Heard that there were about 4500 participants for the 10km category, largest turn out compared to other categories.  With so many people, it wasn't possible to go dashing off the starting line after flag off, hence, the starting was a very civilised slow jog for everyone.  Me inclusive.

So I jogged. And jogged. And jogged.

My friend Gan went ahead..cos she has a personal goal to achieve..that is to finish without stopping : o madness..i know..but she did it! Didn't even stop for water.  She went so far ahead..I didn't even see her shadow.

Basically..as we agreed earlier..we won't stick together...we will go at own pace and meet later at the finishing line.  I saw Jenny for a while..then I went ahead..eagerly.

It was indeed different running with so many people. You get so motivated to keep going non stop,,cos if you stop..everyone starts over taking you and it doesn't help when I'm such a slow walker.  I think I ran for about 40 mins non stop ..then I started to feel tired and started wondering when will the journey end.

From that moment onwards..it was a rather lonely journey.  All I saw was...the road. ....never ending road.  No indication of how far more I had to endure.

By the time I stopped at the 1st or was it 2nd water station..my legs became wobbly.  I knew then that I had to keep running or else my muscles will give up on me.

We were given this headlight to use mainly for safety purposes. Secondly, in case it gets too dark.  Thirdly, Energiser is the main sponsor ma.  Obviously..I didn't wear it on my head.  Most of us jus had it strapped either on the arm or hand.

So..I went on ..pacing myself according to the music I selected for company.  I have a few favourites that perks me up to help me run faster.  Some tracks I will just pace slowly to recover.  Well, I learnt one thing though..even a 3 mins track can be bloody long when you are in a race.  Cos..if I'm slow jogging or brisk walking to a recovery track..it was impossible to be slow for the entire track when everyone's over taking you.  On the other hand, when I'm 'sprinting' to a faster track...3 mins seems to take forever to end :D

Anyway,..that was pretty much what I did to keep myself entertained and motivated through out.  Unlike Jenny, she prefers to keep her ears and eyes free so that she can enjoy the sceneries and listen conversations of people around her.

So.. I ran, joggged, walked, ran, jogged..lor. and was badly looking forward to end by the 60th minute.  My weak right ankle started to hurt..although it did really really well holding on for an hour of non stop running.  After some time the left ankle started to hurt slightly too..cos I was using more of it to compensate the other one.  Soon afterr the right and then left knee started to hurt :D

Oh...I forgot to mention ~ shorlty 5 mins into the run, I had a cramp on the lower right abdomen.  It has happen before when I work out at the gym..especially when I eat too close before a work out.  But this time,.I was like 5 mins into a 10km run..wth.  Soon..it became pain..all over the right side. of whatever organs / muscles..but it's familiar pain..cos I get that when I do too much RPM. But..then again...this is a run...not a class that I can walk out of a door.

And..I want to finish within the qualifying time of 1.5 hours.  So..there was a little bit of apprehension there.

Anyway..to cut the long story short....finally..it was a relieve to come to a junction where there were many of people..some in drums cheering us on to the finishing line.  Wah..finally the end. I quickly fast forward to my favourite running track ~ Billy Idol's Shock The System.  Guess what..it wasn't the end yet..when the song ended :s

I stopped my stopwatch, when I crossed the finishing line but had problems figuring out how much time I  took exactly, never seen such figures in watch after owning it for so many years, haha.  Anyway..I soon found out that I did finish within the 1.5 hours..cos there was a medal in the goody bag and we can wear it to take a photo at the photo corner.

Yay!

Guess..that's the end of story.  A little something that I did towards the end of Q1 2010 ^.^

Just let me..show off the medal one more time :

Sick? Not.

Aih.  Seems like I've been having these sick bugs for the longest time in history.  It first started with a mild cold last Sunday, then it developed into a bad sore throat and body aches at night but got better in the morning (so that I can get back to work..*roll eyes*).  I took the later part of the day off anyway.. knowing that it's gonna be a long week and most importantly ..I gotta be fit the weekend :)

By Tuesday evening..I thought it's alll gone and good, well, there was still abit of sore throat lingering on, I skipped gym but went for a jog instead.  Went back to the gym on Wednesday night for bodycombat.

Guess what, I started coughing on Thursday afternoon, -.- not a bad one..but ..I don't usually get awfully sick..just enough to irritate and make things a little imperfect.  I defied the little odds by going to the gym again.  My muscles need to keep active you see, or else they will all stiff by Saturday.  I have old muscles.

Woke up with an eye sticky with discharge on Friday morning. wth.  I assumed it's the way the body discharge toxins since I've been so heaty the whole week but the eye became red and redder towards later part in the morning.  It was worrying.  I really thought I will have to skip the race ..I will be so mad..! I really want to see how well I can fare..in my first try in a marathon.

Mind matters.  As the eyes become redder..I thought I saw the other eye affected too, head became heavy. Eyes started to feel irritated.  It's all in the mind.  When the mind's weak...nothing is well.

Finally saw the doc much later in the afternoon after rushing off some work.  Boy..what a relieve it was when the doc ruled out conjunctivitis \o/  Doc says..both eyes will be affected if it is conjunctivitis.  The red eye is  probably due to heatiness.  Phew.  Cleared to do what ever I want to do as long as I'm up to it. Yay.

So..off I went to have a relaxing dinner with Felicia at D'Italiane Kitchen, Giza Mall \o/

Nice place.  I like.

We opted to sit at the external seating area. Cosy. So nice to dine  while watching the rain and.,congested traffic on the road :P

A glimpse of the interior.  Excellent service, by the way. Attentive, prompt and polite.

Smoked Duck Angel Hair Pasta Agli Olio, this is not the exact name,,I made it up.

Pizza..can't remember even a word. from the menu.to make up a name, but it's Pizza :D

Suddenly, the sky is clear. Head isn't heavy. Eventho the eye is still red..and throat stil hurts.

Better catch some sleep now....

Different Viewpoint

I saw this view while I was jogging by the lake yesterday, couldn't resist snapping a shot since I had my handphone with me.  Normally I don't carry the phone when I jog..I had to yesterday for some silly reason, one of those stupid things I do.

Anyway..evening views are always nice in this park.  One of the reason why I am growing to like evening jogs here.

What do you see or rather..what are your thoughts when you see this?

To me..it's just a nice ....view.   Half complete building ..with it's own reflection on the water.  If I had the camera with me..the relection of the orangy sunlight will be even more visible on the water.  Ermm..that's about it.

One person made a comment when I put this up on Facebook.  It says:
"beauty can emerge amidst a concrete jungle in the making. great job capturing it ".

So deep huh..took me a while to digest the sentence.  Or..was I slow?
I gotta improve my literacy skills?

....may be it's just that a different set of eyes...interpretes the scene differently? But then...the eye transmits the informtion to the brain and the brain processes the information accordingly.

Hmm...

lol.

Nissan Latio I-key Remote Battery Replacement

Exactly a month ago, I wrote about having problems with the I-key.  If you missed it..read about it HERE  The problem got worse by day, to the extend of not being able to unlock nor start the car for a few minutes.  It just doesn't respond anymore.  Finally decided get it check out at the service centre before it totally stop responding and get myself stranded in some place not able to unlock nor start the car.

After some check, they decided that it is a battery issue.  Seems to make sense..cos if there are faults with the intelligent system, the non-manual remote button should work just fine.  In my case, even the manual remote buttons wasn't responsive, so it should be the battery.

Hmm..battery ran out after only a year?  The replacement cost was RM11 for this piece of ....metal?  Anyone knows how much this cost elsewhere?

Anyway anyhow..I still feel that the intelligent system ain't so intelligent as before. Hmm...you will definitely hear from me again..if I still have problems :P

Hutong @ Lot 10

I finally got a chance to experience this much talk about eating haven.  It was a brainchild of our very own Tan Sri Francis Yeoh who wanted nothing more but to put together all his favourite food under one roof.  How cool is that :) Wish I can do something like one day!

Anyway..this place had definitely boost the popularity of Lot 10.  Chinese people ..Malaysian Chinese in particular are such foodie....anywhere with good food..they will be there munching away ~

Read more about Hutong, Lot 10 at The Star HERE

This place supposedly has most if not all of KL most popular food..from the famous Petaling Street Charcoal Fried Hokkien Mee to Klang's Bak Kut Teh.  Even Singapore's famous Fried Hokien Prawn Noodle is available here.

L: Klang Bak Kut Teh
R: Soong Kee Beef Noodle from the heart of KL town ctr

L : Very famous Popiah from Campbell
R : Petaling Street Hokkien Mee
(Both had very very long queues)

Since I wasn't well on that day, I decided to have porridge.  This is also originated from Petaling Street.  and had been in business for years.

I think..this place is much cleaner than it's original set up :P

I opted for fresh raw fish to go with the porridge.

Additional side dish..was..err..deep fried pig intestine :P that explains why I fell quite sick later in the night :D

Taste wise..not much different than from the original stall.  Total cost :RM11++

Verdict:
Hmmm.  Personally...I do think it is such a brilliant concept but being a somewhat traditional person and most importantly a hassle free freak...I'd don't think this will be my top destination choice for a relaxing meal.

Queue to order.  Queue to wait for food. Self carry food to seat. Looking for a place to sit.  Queue again for drinks.  Queue again for other snacks.  Certainly not my type of environment to enjoy the food..

Unless I happen to be in the area, it will be a perfect place to get good food without having to drive all the way all acoss town to get my favourite dish. Its air conditioned too : )

Apologies if the pictures are not very clear. Only realised my camera was on macro setting towards the end and was too tired to re-take. For better food pics go HERE

My 1st Race Kit

Just collected the race kit for the coming race. Yeah..it's happening this Saturday *anxious*  Not that I can run damn well now, as I was telling Gan, still the same - can't last long.  While I'm able to enjoy running more than I ever before..I still can't last long without stopping.

Anyway it's not compulsory to run all the way thru out the 10km...no fret, but we can choose to challenge ourselves to finish the race in the fastest time possible.  A medal will be awarded to finishers within the 1.5 hours qualifying time.  Certificates will be issued to all upon race completion.

So far..I am always half dead after 30 mins jog around the lake...with interval breaks in between ,,lol.

Stay tune..to see how i fare on the actual day..night actually.  Flag off for 10km category is at 9pm.  Meanwhile..here's my tag :)

And here's the vest. ..not very nicely taken here..see next pic taken from the official website.

nice eh?

I was determined to take size S..nowadays I always take S sizes when I shop ma.  Guess what..I received strong objections from the counter staff :D  Well..they speak from experience..as they are all runners.  Their main reasoning is that..S will be tight for this cutting ..and too tight is not good for running.  True also la.  Took M eventually..and it fits just right :P

P/S Trying is not allowed..hence the commotion.  Learning - next time bring a top of your own to measure.

Stupid Things I Do

Some two hours some time on Friday, I'm quite convinced, were some of the most inauspicious hours for me.  I did stupid things in that hundred and twenty minutes.  The first incident was extremely stupid, so stupid that I'm not even willing to share it here.

Let's just say it had something to do with this :

Fortunately my brain works best under pressure and managed to get myself out of trouble in no time without creating much hassle to anyone.

About an hour later, after getting myself out of trouble..while I was on the road heading to MV from Cheras..I realised that there were no signboards nor direction to MV for noobs like me ...e.g. I was at this point where I had to choose between three exits..

1. towards Old Klang Road
2. towards Town Centre
3. towards PJ

I took the 3rd option..hence ended up on the Federal Highway with MV on the other side of the highway.  I've never gone to MV from this direction,.how the heck do I know.  I guess I should have taken option 2 ..right? But...why can't there be a signage or something??

And so..I ended up on Federal Highway instead.  Obviously..the fastest way to get to the other side of the road is to get on to the Bangsar exit to make a u-turn.  Ya..I know that very well..done that many times, however, it was still an inauspicious time for me you see...for some reason..I got disillusioned...and ..somehow believed that the Sprint Highway exit ..is the U-turn -.-

So..I ended up stupidly in Hartamas.

Now...shall I continue with this stupid story.  Yupe ..it did not end there.

To get back to MV..one of the option is to head towards Bangsar.  At that particular turn off...one should take left to go to Bangsar ..those who wants to head to PJ will take right.  Your dear friend here..was dreaming again..I took right instead!

I seriously do not know what got into me.  Well..some of you who know me well enough..would probably say that ..these things are quite expected from me. Come on..not to this extend...never.

That's about the end of stupid incidents for the day...I think.

The rest of the evening was nice, relaxing and fun with GHY, MK and Damian.  Ahem..there was one more thing.  I lost a bet to MK.  Oh well..I wouldn't categorise it as another stupid do.  It was all for fun.  We decided to bet to whether GHY will arrive on time :D

The conditions were:
If she arrives betweem 6 to 6.15pm ..I will buy MK dinner.

GHY arrived at 6.13pm -.-

R.O.M. @ Putrajaya

It was only 5.15am when the music started playing from the alarm..two hours earlier than usual -.-  Such an early day for a non-morning person..all for fun? or friendship? Doesn't matter.  It has been a meaningful day for her.  We are so happy for her.

I've never attended a R.O.M.

A sweet & simple occasion, for this one at least.  Took us about half an hour to reach Putrajaya, thanks to the school holidays.

Procedure wise:

Upon submission of papers (about a few weeks ago), they were given the morning shift, I think it's between 8.45am to 11.30am. The couple reports to the counter upon arrival to obtain a queue number. The wait for a room was only about 15 mins.

The room was nice..with simple deco, just right for the ocassion.

The swearing in ceremony was short and sweet too. Couple declared husband & wife within 30 mins.

I couldn't resist taking some shots of the groom holding on to his granny's hand most of the time.  So sweet right?

By the way, I was given the honour to take home this bouquet :) cos I'm the only one not attached amongst all the gals.  It's suppose to bring me love luck :P

The love-bees should be hard-at-work now ..hehe.

Guess what? My dad couldn't resist asking about the flowers.  He asked "pin ko heung nei kau fun?" (i.e. who proposed to you?) :D

Lastly..Putrajaya is indeed quite a nice township.  Feels like we are in a totally different country.
Wish KL will be like this one day.

Evening Run and Alice in Wonderland theme (MV)

Nothing to talk about today.
Only wanna say that I had an enjoyable evening jogging by the lake.  Evening sun.  Windy.  Happy people with happy kids.  Many brought dogs as well.  Very nice.  I like.

A little boy ..about 4 -5 years old was also trying to jog..in his little sandals.  When he saw me approaching from behind..he refused to stop.  I slowed down..just to make him feel good that he is going fast enough.  He turned his head slightly several to check how far behind I am..but never really looked at me.  Cute.  This went on for quite some time....must have been at least 5 mins...for a while I thought he is never going to stop..and I will go breathless !  Luckily..he finally stopped..phew.

I think I beginning to like running :)

By the way, here are some pics I took from Mid Valley last week.  It's Alice in Wonderland fever ! Personally..I'm not into fantasy stuff..but since..everyone who was with me that day..insisted that the deco is a 'must photograph'..I obliged lor.

Ok la...quite nice indeed...but..

Scary.

More scary.

Check out the blue flower..I will have a nightmare tonight man..

Well ..quite a pretty blue mushroom.

and..what huge one here.

By the way..what's Alice in Wonderland all about? I've forgotten.

Car Wash

When was the last time you washed your own car?

With the current fast paced lifestyle of many, it's not surprising that less people have time (and or energy) to wash the car themselves.  Time especially during weekends is scarce and precious.  Washing a standard size car will take at least half to an hour, vacuum not included.

It makes so much more sense to simply drive over to a car wash in the neighbourhood.  They are equipped, quick and efficient.

You don't even need to get out of the car.

La di da...enjoy the air condition and music while the car is being pampered.
Vacuum service inclusive.

At least two persons working on each car  at one time, hence, waiting time is fairly short.

My white babe is sparkling clean in no time.
Charge = RM8 only.

But...........

As always..it RAINS cats and dogs....almost every single time I wash the car -.-
And it's still raining...for the second time within the last 5 hours.
