Paying more for Intelligence

How long does your phone batt last after each charge?

A normal phone with the most basic functions (calls and text only) normally lasts for about 2-4 days after each re-charge. My previous non smartphone with wifi runs out of batt almost immediately whenever I use the function.

With the current Iphone, a full charge lasts only for about 2 days or more  max.if it is mainly used for calls and text.  But then, why have a smartphone when it is only for calls and text?  So..with normal usage e.g. surfing, apps, games..it lasts for about 1 to 1.5 days max.

As some of you may know, my car is equipped with an Intelligent Key system.  Some owners may opt for a normal system and pay less. People like me...typical sucker for gadgets and whatever not...wouldn't mind paying more for technology and err..style.

Well..I had my fair share of problems and hiccups..shared HERE and HERE Similarly, the battery of the intelligent remote key runs out faster than other normal remote.  I had issues with in after only 10 months into using the car in February 2010.

It started going cranky again in January this year. That's about another 10 or 11 months.  Was told that..it is a norm..Intelligent ma..so it uses up more battery than a normal remote control.

Hmm..

Does color matter?

http://free.clipartof.com

A cashier mistakenly thought that I came first to the queue, hence, I was served first instead of L who came first.

L : I came earlier than her but you served her first. Just because she is Chinese!

Cashier : (shocked, apologised, quickly serves L instead)

Me : No worries..small matter..really. And you look Chinese by the way.

L : I am mixed.  And I can speak Chinese too.

And she went on and on about the Cashier discriminating her because she is not Chinese...

Does color matter?

I am still puzzled as in..how can such mentality exist in our modern society..?

Quite sad actually.

B o r e d

I think I am bored.

CNY is around the corner..I don't sense the ding a ling atmosphere, I don't feel excited..may be it's because I have not been to any of the malls..since..Christmas?  Right..I should make a trip to one before they take down all the decos, but first, I have to get the spirit up to step into one.  Salary's in..that should be a motivation!  Have not really bought any new stuff for CNY ...do we really need new stuff? It's all customary and tradition.
I know quite a few people who had moved away from such tradition.  But then..if we stop doing all these..where is the fun?  CNY will just be any other day or week.

Imagine Christmas without a Christmas tree? My father was complaining about my sis' turkey during Christmas, she roasts a Turkey every Christmas..which is something everyone looks forward to, well except my father.  He thinks it is expensive and a duck or goose would have tasted better :D  But then..we can't serve Duck for Christmas...it's just not right.

Tired. Been somewhat busy..with god knows what.Usual stuff I guess..work, gym.  Just realised I have not have any interesting check ins to foursquare or foodspotting for ages..erm..ok ..for a week. Last spot was at Wong Ah Wah last Friday. Hehe.  Till then....

I actually miss Running ?

I think I've been missing running..

Have not done any serious running since PBIM in November, not even short evening or morning jogs at the park.  At most..it was some 10 or 15 mins on the treadmill.

If it is true that I miss running..I would have easily gone out to the park or on the treadmill to run. Weekend mornings ~ couldn't wake up.  Evenings ~ too busy with other stuff or it was raining or going to rain.  Treadmill ~ too boring.

May be it's more like I miss the running events.  Miss the atmosphere, etc.

Life's getting a bit boring you see...with CNY around the corner and all. And there's nothing to look forward to after CNY : (

The next running event, Energiser, will only be in April.

Though..I should start to train now.  It's gonna be another half marathon ler. What am I doing here..not training at all??

And I don't even know if my muscles are up to it.  Oh..I can still remember the excruciating pain towards the end on PBIM and after.  I doubt the muscles have fully recovered as I still feel some pain when I work out too much. Yesterday, for example, serious muscle soreness of the inner thighs after Sunday's badminton session, delayed effect, that is.

April's gonna be goody good good.  First run of the year. First holiday for the year...flying off on my Birthday =)) woo hoo..!

Yummy Pastries @ Happy Meal, Petaling Street

Been hearing lots about this place in Petaling Street (Jalan Tun HS Lee junction) that sells yummy pastries.

Finally I got to try them.

They are famous for their Durian tarts and puffs but I was too full that day after a feast of chee cheong fun, curry laksa and yong tao foo.  I sensibly took away 2 pieces of swiss roll instead, one mango and durian flavour each.

Price was surprisingly reasonable for such a famous place..I think it was about RM2 each.

SOURCE: www.awhiffoflemongrass.com/

Omigosh..they are the tastiest swiss roll I've ever had!  I actually regretted sharing them with my nephew.  He is normally quite picky with food especially cakes...but he ended up eating up almost everything when I went to answer the phone. Only left me some small miserable piece of each .  He would have finished all if I hadn't stopped him.  So much for fighting for food with a five year old!

Sigh..someone..whoever is nice enough to drive down to that place again?

They have many other yummy varieties..from butter cakes to tarts..etc.

More yummy photos ..go to this Blog

A little of everything

I had a little getaway.
As if there wasn't enough holidays in the past months.  Well, I'd say this is a different sort. A break from the holidays ..he he...and was also hoping to get some errands and house cleaning done.

Yes..I used the word 'hoping' simply because I didn't want to give so much fuss about this cleaning issue all because CNY is around the corner.  Why add more stress to this already stressful world right?

In anticipation of a 'busy' end week, I cramped three days of gym-work from Mon to Wed.  Tiring but there was some sense of achievement there to know that I can actually stretch a bit beyond the norm. Surprised myself by still being able to join some friends for a late dinner on Wed after a gruesome RPM session.

By the time I wrapped up, I didn't have anything left to think about the next day's breakie with Chris.  I was supposed to decide on a place.  I wonder why I always ended up to be the one making decisions like this....they kept saying it's because I'm the most picky when it comes to food.

It is expectations..not picky.

So...while struggling to wake up in the morning, somehow, in between my sleep and dreams, I managed to 'shortlist' Solaris to be  the target destination for breakie.

I reached out for my notebook by the bed when I finally woke up around 9ish, logged on to Google, typed "solaris breakfast" and voila....dozens of suggestions popped up on the screen.  I love the internet.  I love blogs.  After some quick reads..it was between Departure Lounge at Solaris itself and this other place at Solaris Dutamas.

It's called The Pink Sage.  There were many blog entries about the breakfast servings here, good pancakes, etc etc.  Just the kind of breakfast I was yearning for!  The power of blogs..!

We stepped our feet into the place around 12ish..yeah..we took that long to get our butt out of the house.  She had some duties with mom.  While waiting, I'm glad to say that I managed to clean and re-arrange some furnitures on another 5% of the house.  *applause*

Presenting : The Stacked Breakfast @ The Pink Sage

How was it?  Not too bad..given that there aren't many places in KL that serve good western breakfast.  My only complain is..I tasted 'beef' in the beans.  May be it's the oil.  I don't reject beef totally but I don't like too strong beefy-taste.  Despite so, I will definitely come back here for their Illy coffee.  My expectations for coffee has gone up .. hehe.  And..oh..I wanted so much to try their Buttermilk Pancakes..but they ran out of pancakes =(  I shall be back!

After food..we went for a little walk at Plaza Damas hoping to get some CNY clothes.. I got two simple t shirts...not exactly suitable for CNY..but I like them and price was reasonable..so..why not.

Then..we had 'lunch' =D  We shared the breakfast..so we weren't exactly full.

Pork Ribs Vietnamese Noodles

Explored this stall near Segambut.  They serve Vietnamese style dishes.  Quite yummy.

Vietnamese Coffee

Main purpose for taking leave on Friday is to take Dad (and myself) to the clinic for the overdue medical checkup.  Achieved.

Went to the bank...after having lunch with Dad...happy with the outcome, decided to drop by Tesco for some CNY stuff shopping.  Enjoyed a leisure stroll in Tesco while sipping A&W root beer float =P

When I was almost done..Chris called to ask if I wanted to have dinner ...hee.

BBQ Chicken Wings @ Wong Ah Wah, Jalan Alor

What do you think? Quite a good mix of work and play right?

It's Saturday evening.  As of an hour ago I had this sudden inspiration and urge to blog.  Seldom have this kind of urge nowadays..so here I am. Still typing away gleefully.

Oh well...since I'm at it...let me also talk about what I did today?

I made breakfast : Cheese & Egg to go with Bread

I cleaned another 5% of this other corner in the living room.  Quite pleased with my work.  While doing that..(over a few hours) ..I caught the marathon run of Criminal Minds on the Fox Channel.   I have not been so drawn to a TV program for a very long time.  I love the plots.  I love all the characters.

Took a simple instant noodle lunch around 3ish.

I'm still not done by the way..have some hand wash laundry waiting for me.  May be clean another 2% before heading to the bath.

Could have done more..if I don't waste time..playing on the phone, checking facebook, playing with the cats. dogs ..in addition to stopping to stare at the TV.

Chill..like I said..ain't gonna stress myself out.  I had fun though..doing a little bit of everything.

Now...I'm missing working out ...back to the gym tomorrow ~

East meets West

On a rainy weekend, my father and I were lazy to go out for food, and too lazy to cook too.  He steamed some Chinese sausages.

With all the physical activities ...Chinese sausages alone ain't enough for me ler...

So..I whipped this up...

Cheese and egg omelette.

Simple and nice. Always like to order this for breakie whenever it's available, but somehow I've never tried making it on my own until now

Did the Chinese sausages match the Cheese+Egg?

Not too bad actually =)

Just rambling

"Never invest your money in anything that eats or needs painting"
Got the above from dudequotes @ Twitter.

Funny but makes quite a lot of sense ins't it?

Well, I'm not sure what it was meant to mean...but I read it as :

Investing in things that eat will be a child or children for example.  On a lesser degree will be pets.  My friend who is a mother to two kids once told me ...that the responsibility and 'burden' starts the moment you start carrying the child in you.

You worry about whether the baby gets enough nutrients from you.
You worry about the baby's development.
You worry about the birth process.
....it's never ending...may be not even on the day you die.

Seriously...

.. and then there are other things like money and "investments" involved?
Medical fees the from pre-birth to post birth, milk, food, nanny, education ...loads and loads of money.

So..that's something that eats ~ they eat into your wealth, your youth, your time, your life :P  Just like how we ate up our parents' everything.  Quite a vicious cycle..if you ask me.

Being single (STILL) and heading towards....'permanent' singlehood...I can't help but be thankful that I am free from this 'burden'.

Let's try to imagine..if everyone on this earth do not re-produce.  How much lower the world's stress index would go?  Population will go down, less pollution, more wealth?  Quite a controversial thought eh?

What about something that needs painting?

A house / property came to my mind. Or a car may be.

Make sense?  You invest in a RM400K house for example. You take up 80% loan. End up having to work for at least 20 years to pay off the loan before you can retire.  By then we will be too old to enjoy life..to travel around the world.  Probably no retirement savings left.

How does that compared to paying rental..?

90% of the payment goes to interest...but when we rent, 100% of the 'investment' goes to the the owner and at the end of the day, he / she owns the house not us.  In other words, we helped them to pay for the house if we rent.

Hmm..so..is it worth while to own a house ?

Just rambling....

My father had once again stated his wish on not moving with me.   Although he was the one who insisted that I get my own property. Technically, I should rent out the place to get some rental income..i.e. get someone to pay for me, but I can't bear to let someone stay at a brand new bigger place while I stay put in a smaller and older house!

... life is so complicated!

No diff

"Worked" on this corner for hours ...cleared inches of dust hidden under the table, at corners, everywhere.  Cleared old utility bills, statements...and god knows what else.  There were heaps.

But..this is just one little corner in the living area.

Despite the time spent, the hard work...there are no obvious visible difference  to the outlook of the living area.  In other words, it doesn't look 'spring cleaned'

: s

I think I shall go back to the old approach..only target the visible areas!

Foodspotting

http://www.foodspotting.com
I think this is quite cool :P

Started using it not too long ago..I know I know..another one..after foursquare.
Wait, wait ...before you start rolling your eyes..this is quite different.

See the map above..isn't that cool....  It's linked worldwide. Just key in your location and pics will appear all over the map.  The pics are loaded by 'spotters' like me.  Well, you can't really make out what what is in the pics at first look.  Click on any , the pic will pop out with a full description of the dish and place spotted.

For example:

Coconut herbal chicken soup @ Keong Kee Poh Ban
Changkat Thambi Dollah, Off Jalan Pudu Kuala Lumpur, WP Kuala Lumpur

There is also a "more details" link and it will link you to the actual :original sight" ~ here you will be able to see

.. how many sightings this dish has
..no. of nominations recived
..when was it spotted
..etc

Foodspotting was only founded very recently, so the database is not that strong yet...i.e. it will need more spotting from people like ME to add more value to the database.

Acording to the founders, Foodspotting intends to cater to both foodseekers and foodspottters.

Foodseekers :
When I'm in Imbi for example, and looking for recommendation of food..I can always switch on the foodspotting app in my phone..tap BROWSE, as the phone detects my current location, it will then show a list of food spotted in the closest proximity.

Foodspotters:
Share a dish that you like by taking a pic and details like name of dish and exact location is a must.

The founders had developed a  rating and reputation system to ensure that the database is as 'real' as possible in reflecting the actual market scenario.

I'm still trying to understand it actually.

Read more HERE

Otherwise..I think the key paragraph is this:

Tips: We developed the Foodspotting reputation system (“tips”) to recognize quality contributions to the Foodspotting community. You can earn tips in the following ways:
  • +20 for every sighting  - sighting is easy..I can sight anything, even if it's not good!
  • +25 whenever someone noms something that you spotted first  - if someone tried it and agrees with my sighting they can click NOM IT to agree , that's nice. I'd like that.
  • +20 whenever someone wants something based on your sighting - this is when someone sees my pic and wants to try it..so click WANT IT
  • +10 whenever someone compliments (“Great shot!” or “Great find!”) your sighting - I also get points when someone compliments my shot or recommendation, I have one nomination for Great shot so far ^.^
  • +5 for commenting on or complimenting other people’s sightings - and I also get point when someone leaves a comment on my sightings

The link to my sightings are HERE , take a look and you will know what I mean.

I did 10 spottings so far. Earned 205 tips ..no idea how I got that.  Actually some of the nominations were done by me..that was before I fully understood the system :P.  Now I that do ...I shall leave it to the public to judge my sightings =)

As a foodie, I shall continue using this..with care, will only sight dishes that I really like.

Oh ya..I've inserted the foodspotting gadget here...you will see it on the right column, it shows the my most recent sightings..NOM if you like them :D

Over ate. again.

Was sharing with Mag..about all the food that I ate today..over lunch to be exact.  She asked if I ate more than a pregnant woman?  Definitely more than the two of our friends who are currently pregnant now..I'm very sure.

Madras Lane's Curry Laksa

Madras Lane's Chee Cheong Fun

Madras Lane's Yong Tau Foo
SOURCE : http://feedmelah.com

Petaling Street's Sweet Potato Balls - 9 of these!

Mag's other question was..Why do you do this?

I was like..huh?

Do what?

Mag - order so much food when you know it is too much for you?

Erm...simple.  Because I only go down to Madras Lane like once in 12 months..so I'd gotta eat as much as I can :D

On a separate note, I think I won't take the trouble to go all the way ...again..at least not in the near future.
Somehow the food...don't taste as good as before.  The ultimate satisfaction wasn't there anymore.

And the potato ball..do you realise the size has gone down by half? Tasted somewhat different too.

Could it be because...food tastes better when it was from Mom? Mom used to take me for all this yummy food when I was little =)

I can cook too!

This is the 'famous' tom yam that I make only almost once a year .

Looks good right?

Inspired by my sis in law who is from Thailand.  Quoting her:

"Tom yam is easy to make, only 6 main ingredients, don't have to pay so much to eat in Thai restaurants"

Main Ingredients:

  • Galangal - cut to cubes (better to grind or smashed - but they are so tough!)
  • Lemon grass - cut to piecs or smashed for better taste
  • Fish sauce
  • Lime leaves
  • Small / Big Chilli - cut or smashed depending on how spicy you want it to be
  • Lime juice - pour in before serving (when fire is off)
  • Salt of course
Measurement & quantity? Don't have any exact ..haha..I'd suggest you try out with a small pot, trial and error. Practice makes perfect :)

Meat wise..chicken or seafood, I personally prefer seafood and some chicken meat (bones) for taste and soup body.  White / Grey abalone mushrooms..seems like a must too.  Not sure if I've eaten any tom yam without these.

Anymore ingredients to suggest?

Personally, I think. besides the main ingredients all the others i.e.meat, vege, seafood that we put in are also key in determining the body and taste of the soup overall.   Good quality prawns, crabs, mussels..will definitely make a difference ....with all these in the soup, it's full points for presentation alone :-)

Back to school

Attended a simple event on Saturday, organised by my secondary school's alumni association. The turn out was not too bad at all with a good mix of representatives from the 70's right up to the 90s. Cool~

The theme was : Health Walk @ Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, one of the more prominent garden lake in the city.

For me..this is the right location for the occasion..cos I used to hang out here alot when I was young.  The flat I was staying in was near by, we used to come here for morning or evening walks.  My dad used to bring us here for evening outings too...this is where I cried like a baby when he forced me to jog with him..not allowing me to stop when i wanted to :'(

When we were bigger, my bro and I played truant by lying to our parents about coming here to jog but in actual fact we went to the McD nearby to have beef burgers :P

So..anyway, we were here on a beautiful Saturday morning.  Many were late..we were suppose to register ourselves at 7am..I only arrived around 7.30..some at around 8, some even later.  Some got lost but eventually arrived.  Malaysian time indeed.

We had a great time though.  There were quite a handful of us from the same year or  a year or two  older.  It would be more fun if more came.

Imagine a group with some big difference in age but yet we share one commonality..for instance, a lady told me she graduated in 1971, but I wasn't even born then! We share one commonality though - we were from the same school.  But whoa..she looks damn good for her age..what an inspiration.

I also chatted with some seniors who are 2-3 years older, don't think I've spoken to some of them before in school..but familiar faces. Just added one in FB cos she is into running as well :)

Most of my closer friends (whom I kept in touch and meet up often in recent years) didn't manage to make it, so I ended up catching up with those that I have not hang out with for many many years.

We stayed back to chit chat over coffee and snacks at a small stall under the tree by the lake. Somethng I have not done for ages...in this Coffee Bean and Starbucks era.

We chatted like old days..

I was the only Chinese..which is so rare to happen in my current life, but, this was very common in school.  Zarina was my partner in class during the final two years.  Norhayati used to sit behind me ..and we were school mates since primary and we were both prefects in secondary.  There is also Rita, also knew here since primary and we were best friends before.  Faizah..knew her since primary too....played badminton with her before ..and sat behind me in one of the class.

Fond memories....

Blogging from phone just for fun. Also beCos I like this pic :p

Traffic had been quite horrendous throughout the week. Almost daily rain. 1st week of school. All contributed to the sudden increase in traffic.

Faulty Traffic lights too! Faulty lights are so common nowadays. I come across one almost every other day. Just today and yesterday, this light opposite the BBBS school, green light doesnt light up when it should, to make things worse we only have 10 seconds to move before the red comes on again. Lol. Hilarious but ridiculous...

Bad news is I'm still wide awake..I wonder why??

Do you clean your Iphone?

If you've read my previous post, you would have read that I prefer my iPhone naked or rather naked and beautiful as FY proudly puts it.  Yes..it's still naked..I still do not agree to covering it up when it is so sleek on its own.

After using it for about a month now..my next question would be..how do I clean it....the screen especially?  I'm kind of a germ freak..I clean my car steering, desk phone, keyboards, ear phones..etc with alcohol wipes. Since the front and back of the iPhone has this oleophobic coating that supposedly resists finger prints... (but not germs) , I've been cautious about cleaning it.

I did ask FY how he cleans his.  His top of mind answer was "my t-shirt" -.-  Then he said..his pocket when he slides it in and out  -.- -.-

It really can get quite 'dirty'..when we tap on it so often ..while eating especially.

Just did a quick search :

Key Points :

DO NOT clean the iPhone 4 with cleaning products. This could damage the oleophobic coating and reduce the value of your iPhone.
Apple highly recommends that you keep cleaning the iPhone 4 simple.
To clean your iPhone 4:
Turn the iPhone 4 off and disconnect it from any cables or power cords.
Use a soft, slightly damp cloth and prepare to wipe the iPhone clean. Be sure not to let any water enter small openings in the iPhone 4
Before starting, be sure no small rocks or dust are on the iPhone 4.
With a circular motion, wipe the damp cloth around the iPhone 4 until oil and fingerprints are completely removed from the phone.
The coating on the iPhone 4 screen and potentially the glass will make keeping it clean important. The coating protects the phone from fingerprints but also makes them more visible

I'm still sick

The stomach cramps are very bothersome. Doc says it's stomach flu.  Thankfully there are no frequent diarrhea although it is one of the main symptom of stomach flu.  I would be better sooner if I'd purge more, I think.

Looking on the bright side, I may soon get rid of the 'michelin' tummy very soon :)

I think I have a 'smart body' here, forcing the irresponsible owner to go on a natural detox process after all those non stop food intake.  I actually started losing some appetite on Thursday itself, before the New Year celebration.  I remember having some stomach cramps on and off then.

Due to 'commitments' I went ahead with feasting :D although intake was less than usual pigging.

Both SH and Jenny were and still are sick too with similar symptoms.  We were wondering if it is the food we had on Thursday.

I shall not mention names.

Plus, I do really think I was already unwell before taking these.  Although, I'm pretty sure, none of us will touch any of these in the near future. :D

Ermm.. these desserts should be harmless though..

Haih....I miss eating.  I miss food.

I do get hungry..very often actually but couldn't eat much.  And food doesn't taste good :(

Going to have some funny tasting dinner and then it's time to take the last round of meds for the day.

Sunway Lagoon Wildlife Park

The wildlife park at SUnway Lagoon can be a good outing for city kids who don't have much exposure to life animals let alone wild life.   My five year old nephew had a time of his life chasing after live chickens while my 2 year old niece was fascinated by friendly rabbits and goats.

I'm quite happy with this close up shot of a giant tortoise despite the "warning" , it does look quite scary..

Besides..how often do you get to see HAIRLESS beings?

:D

We were surprise to see these 'geckos' eating vege...they looked like meat-eaters!

I've forgotten what they are called, KT says they are chameleons.. but quick check on google showed tthat chameleon looks like this lar..

www.wildherps.com

There is a friendly corner where visitors are welcomed to interact with with free running kid (baby goat), rabbits, guinea pigs..

We also caught the otters feeding session.

 Awesome.

What to do..city people like us seldom get to see such scenes.

NYE 2010 ~ while everyone was partying to welcome the NY, I was all bundled up in bed :s shivering cold but burning up.  Been a long time since I felt that sick.  Thankfully the fever subsided by morning but was still feeling awful with pounding headaches, body aches and nagging tummy upset.

Just got out from the throne after a major 'do' :P

Feeling much better now.  Felicia just told me that she's coming over at 4.30  to pick me up before heading out to get some stuff than to Mich's place for a small gathering.  I'm supposed to prepare my 'signature' tom yum dish.  I was too sick this morning to go out get the ingredients. Actually, I have not decided if I want to go ..well ..er..it's getting kinda boring anyway.

So..that was my 1.1.11.  How was yours?
