gotta have it

The mundane-ness is Killing Me! Having this now..2nd one today...

Hope I can have one of this tonight..

Horoscope for the day (SPOT ON THIS TIME!):

This kind of strange day doesn't come around very often, WSL. You no longer seem to know what you want. Do you want to work or take time off? Do you want to redecorate your house or live in a shack by the beach? It's hard to communicate with people, because you feel that trying to explain your point of view is pointless, especially when you don't know what it is yourself. The best thing to do may be to unplug yourself from your usual activities and go for a walk. This confusion shall pass, WSL.

Awaken!

I was struggling with the most difficult part of the report..and my cyber mates woke me up from my *sulking* land.

Friend no.1 telling me about her boss being dropped from the latest org. chart..and she will be moving to another team. Sianz....as she says.

And..on a lighter note..Friend no.2 told me this (totally out of this world):

Fren says:ah, wait!!! i wanna tell you this first!

Fren says :my brother and i went crazy in egypt, bought a set of sheesha for our home entertainment, hahahaa
WSL says: wats THAT?

QUOTE: Melodie Beattie

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity....
It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow...
Today's Horoscope
New people you meet are likely to be favorably impressed with your manners, social skills, and above all, your sense of humor. Don't be surprised if this brings you some new opportunities today!
(Didn't meet anyone today la...whole day in front of work station)
Your health is radiant, and you're probably looking great.
(Look like crap today man...)
This is, therefore, an excellent time to plan an evening out with friends, or, better yet, with a romantic partner.

Eight Time

PIC Source
It's Eight Time :D
Yea..was so looking forward to calling the day off....I keep thinking about "Eight Time" . This new way of telling time came all the way from Gz courtesy of Mag. Excerpts as follows:
...then I tried to recall the salon conversation and it slowly began to ring a bell. I thought I heard her answering us "Ten time." But I wasn't sure. So I asked further."Did I hear her say ten time just now?""Ya, that's what she said." I was dumb-founded. Totally. He reacted to the entire conversation so calmly, as though nothing was unusual. I remained astonished in silence for a few seconds, the we both laughed.
Hey, you know what? I am getting off work at five time today...READ MORE
Hmm..now why does this sound so familiar. Aha...my nephew says that too:
  • ME: What time are we going to the park tomorrow?
  • Nephew : ahh....5 time!
Mag will curse me for bringing this up again. She was just telling me the other day that she doesn't like all those bitchy stuff that she wrote those days. But hey girl...we miss your blogging. In fact...it won't be you..if it is not bitchy :pppp Come on..revive your blog....now that you are out of the mainland.
Gosh..can't believe I've been workg non-stop for the last 10 hours. Lunch was a horrible tasting mamak rice. Paying back fro all those blogging during office hours man...

Dog Grooming DIY

Yes..I've been a blog junkie lately ... but besides blogging I've actually done some therapeutic stuff today. The day started with me bathing phoebe (the dog) and a little of cleaning around the house. Had brunch with sis and dad then made a quick stop at One U since she had to do some quick shopping, there was a halloween road show at the concourse area..and my closest family members here conveniently made me queue up with kids to get them a free cotton candy (duh..!) - advantages/disadvantages for being the youngest in the family.

Secondly, I've mentioned before that I would like to pick up pet grooming someday. You'd probably noticed that I have a soft spot for animals. I dream of being able to work with animals one day..preferably as an NGO if possible. On the other hand, pet grooming is a skill I would like to have as a hobby or better still as an income generator :p.

A quick check from House of Groomer website -- A General Practitioner Groomer Course for 13 weeks costs RM8,000.00!!!!

Not willing to spend that kind of money yet..hence, I have Phoebe dog to give me unlimited free practices. Poor Phoebe..she freaks out whenever I pick up that pair of scissors.

Before vs. After

How? Can ah? Got diff or not?

A professional Kit vs. my 'pariah' kit
Source:http://www.canineconcepts.co.uk/

It can be quite therapeutic, really, snipping away all those hair. The end result - I'd like to think that the dog feels better and lighter after shedding off all those hair and me --- I now have a backache (due to prolong squatting and bending) and also headache (probably from the evening heat)!

P/s: Had to skip Geetha's open house. Tired la..need to re-charge quietly..to prepare for the week.

My First blog entry

Been reading randomly some of my previous blog entries :) Mixed feelings...some are funny & totally pointless, some brought back nice memories, some not so good memories, some boring....etc etc. Overall, I would say, no regrets for keeping up with this blog. Personally, it was quite enlightening to re-visit my life in the past 3 years plus. Can't believe I've been doing this for more than 3 years.

Most blogger friends who started together with me had stopped blogging by now except for Daydreamer -self explanatory (who occassionally still logs to entertain us with her latest 'weird' dream buy) and Busybee - the busy successsful money making high flyer who is also a wife and mother (normally entertains us with Ryan's latest antics..and a lil bit of other things - money in particular). Cowie - left the scene for a while to 'battle out' mother hood..recently came on board again..as with all mothers - mainly blogs about their precious little ones. Jane another lapsed blogger who made a come back recently with a brand new blog - new blog new mission - well done and good luck mate! Oh ya..there is also IO who blogs occasionally mostly with pictures..and her deep thoughts.

Down memory lane..presenting is my First Blog Entry in July 2005!

Life and Me
Ya..let's talk about life.

Mr Albert Ee (a reputable Palmist) had described my life as 'karmic' i.e. a lot of my experiences are pre-destined / pre-determined by my previous life BUT nothing fatal as I will be 'protected' somehow - I m just one of the lucky / unlicky ones who are picked to go through some tests and eventually I will pass to become a better person.

Well..whatever happened in my previous life has definitely made life pretty eventful for me..

CHILDHOOD was pretty smooth (as far as i can remember)...but life has been 'eventful' as I grow up..

THEFTS...I am the only person I know in this world who was robbed thrice plus losing one car to car theft.

SICKNESS...recently diagnosed with Endometriosis and/or Fibroids. Nothing fatal...but it's a less than 1in2 chance amongst all women. 10 years ago - a mysterious attack (nervous system) left me paralysed for more than 5 days. For years..doctors told me I may have a neurological disorder i.e. the attack may recur again bla bla..but what the heck..life has to go on! Anyway..I am fine now..no relapse whatsoever..except for some stiffness and mild weaknesses.

LOSS...mom was diagnosed with lung cancer at 50+ yrs old..fyi ..she does not smoke. Anyway...she survived a few years after a series of treatment and passed away a few months after my graduation ceremony.

Well well ...some of you may say..things could have been worse. I do agree..things could have been worse.

My message to all readers out there>> things happen for a good reasons. It may be painful at times...just be strong and get over it. Trust me..you wil be a stronger person.

BKT & Lala Dinner - Klang Town

Had a good dinner with sis, b.i.l and dad in klang town. Totally relaxing...cos I didn't have to decide what and where to eat, no need to drive, no need to order..I jus hopped onto car, wait for food and ate. I think I barely spoke. So..don't ask me where we had this delicious dinnner...I can only tell that the shop is by the main road of Klang Town.

After the meal, while everyone was chatting, I occupied myself for a while playing with games from sis' latest Motorola phone. I used to go crazy over games - from those silly game & watch (ocotopus, mickey mouse ??) to final fantasy on those old fashion tv game console to Doom (is that what it is called?) on PC to the very first PS console. I still have that thing which totally obsolete by now, @#$% I spent one thousand over on it man.... Even had the 'gun' to play Time Crisis. Edward lar..(my play mate when I was in the M company)...he 'encouraged' me to spend on those things...I still remember hi words.."ai yaa...u work so hard..earn so much money..cannot afford a couple hundred on a gun meh...why so stingy..spend lar". Sigh.have not been indulging in my 'childhood' hobby for a long time. I don't mind a PS3 now though *hint hint*

While I indulge in the phone games, had sis to entertain dad, so it was jus me, myself and the food and the games. Anti social hor?! I think dad is also glad there is somebody else to listen to him apart from me (who had not been listening much lately). Oh..almost forgot, there was another family at the dinner table (neighbour of my sis)..see how 'anti-social' I was :p

Ouch!

Am beginning to see stars oridi...
Was quietly working in the office since 12ish just now. ya ..ya..doesn't sound like me...but it's me! One of those days la....when you have to do it..you have to do it lor. My boss doesn't even know I am here....ML thinks it's silly of me..but..I am just not the type to brag about these things. In fact..I tried hard not to mention here..but..I am so tired now..I just gotta say it somewhere. Those who happen to know had been asking...WHY? How come tis time so hardworking? My answer had been..."ya lar. got la.. some urgent stuff need to clear"
Well, in between, bummed around a bit on facebook and blogs la..how can all work and no play. Still lot's more to be done..but I don't think I can last much longer. Seeing stars liao...feeling a bit hungry too... went to the ladies just now..the building is so quiet..very scary ler.
And No..I won't be working tomorrow. REST DAY. Not even gym. The instructor must have 'heard' me complaining about my tummy (law of attraction ka :D??) ..the body conditioning part of the class was so punishing on the abs! ..Ouch! About time to take some rest lar. Had a few ocassions where I nearly sprain my right ankle. In fact..there was a 'klaak' sound and then it went numb for a while...I kept checking for swelling....but didn't see any. Pain wise..I don't think so. Actually, I can't tell exactly....cos I don't have 100% sensation on the right leg :D
ok...pukul enam liao...home!

Happy Deepavali

Happy Deepavali to all my Hindu friends and of course..Happy Holidays to all who once again have this previlege to share the holiday..as usual..in Malaysia....we get to share festive after festive :) Just 2 weeks ago we had a good 5 day long break to celebrate the Hari Raya Puasa.

Deepavali is a colorful festival that is celebrated by all Hindus worldwide is Deepavali, which is also known as the festival of lights. This festival usually falls around late October and November. One important practice that the Hindus follow during the festival is to light oil lamps in their homes on Deepavali morning. By lighting the oil lamps, the Hindus are thanking the gods for the happiness, knowledge, peace and wealth that they have received. The Hindus consider Deepavali as one of the most important festivals to celebrate. Read more about the festival ..here > http://www.essortment.com/all/whatisdeepaval_rgwe.htm

This reminds me of Chris! Many years ago..we were signing a Deepavali card for Usha (our department secretary) in the M company. Chris exclaimed that that was her first time signing a Deepavali card. We all gasped (!!)..and then laughed out loud....it's quite normal for Chris..cos she had never eaten roti canai or capati before meeting us. I guess it depends on the neighbourhood and type of school that one grows up in. For me..I grew up in a national school (sekolah kebangsaan) and being the 'sociable' me - I have friends from all background, sizes, age, races. Well, KT thinks that I am a hypocrite (which I agree to a certain extent) cos I am always 'nice' to everyone.

Those were the days. Sad to say..once I left school, naturally, my circle of friends narrowed down to typical Chinese mainly. I've been missing the rendang that I get to eat every year in Rafidah's house. Since I left the M company...I don't get to eat the best muruku from Usha anymore. Even amongst current..Chinese friends we actually stopped visiting each other on CNY. Sad....modernisation?

Anyway, Geetha (former CS school mate re-connected recently via FB) has invited some of us to her house tomorrow. I hope I can make it there ..yum yum!

Chilli Pan Mee

Dad was asking for this last Sunday...but ...I really needed to have RICE last Sunday after all those night outs on (hawker food on Friday and Itallian on Saturday). Bad selfish daughter!!! Tonight we eat..okay?
Chilli Pan Mee used to be only available in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Now..they have two other branches :

  • Kepong branch - near Carrefour Kepong - same row as HSBC - a few shops away from Guardian and the KWSP office

  • Kota Damansara - from main road heading towards direction to Mutiara D'sara, turn left into the area when you see UOB on your left, go straight ( u will pass Neighbourhood Coffee shop & D.U. coffee shop on your left), later you will pass Sun Yin Loong coffee shop on your right (oppsite Pak Li kopi tiam) - Chilli Pan Mee is behind Sun Yin Loong

Yes....it's me. I'm really back in the office on a Saturday. Stepped in arond 11.45am. Been bumming around the net till now. It's now 12.24pm. Darn...wasted 45 mins! Not planning to stay for long....will definitely hit the road before the sun sets. Better still if I can leave by 3-4pm and make a trip to the gym before dinner time. I noticed this irritating organ I like to term as extra flesh ( FATS to be exact) slowly building up around my abdomen....even though I've been going to the gym more regularly lately. why ah? Either I've been eating too much, sitting too much or the FATS are so smart that they found their way in....cos I've been doing pretty much body combat only...need to add variety to confuse them ah?

I am falling asleep!!!
Normally, I wil be just strolling in from lunch at this hour. For today, I decided to eat in to save some time. Been working on something and I am in quite a dire need of time. And yet..I am falling asleep here. Coffeeeee....I need!

So..I am back here...to distract myself from snoozing....

Got this from a mail a while ago. Have also heard about it before..but have not actually tried doing it. You wanna try...??

How to achieve good vision during heavy downpour, while you are driving.

We are not sure how effective it is, just try this method when it rains heavily.
This method was told by a Police friend who had experienced and confirmed it.... it is useful...even driving at night. Most of the motorists would turn on HIGH or FASTEST SPEED of the wipers during heavy downpour, yet the visibilty in front of the windscreen is still bad.....

Thus, in the event you face such situation, just try your SUN GLASSES ( any model will do), and miracle....All of a sudden, your visibility in front of your windscreen are perfectly clear, as if there is no rain................
Try it yourself and share it with your friends..............
Make sure you have a pair of SUN GLASSES in your car, you are not only helping yourself to drive safely with good vision, but also you might save your friend's life when driving in the rain..........

Hmmm...I would think I will look quite silly in a sunglass when there is no sun - what do you think??

About the ABS & Coffee

The ABS is a four-wheel system that prevents wheel lock-up by automatically modulating the brake pressure during an emergency stop. By preventing the wheels from locking, it enables the driver to maintain steering control and to stop in the shortest possible distance under most conditions. Source: About.com

Thank you ABS! My heart's still pumping. Had another near accident encounter a while ago..same spot same traffic light as a couple of weeks ago when I almost bulldozed a Perodua Kancil *hee*. I still maintain that I am (by normal circumstances) a gentle and safe driver.

This time it was an old Datsun..(Or issit a Nissan) without any brake lights. Well..the light was still green ( a couple of seconds left to be exact) ....I was right behind it watching the lights, at the same time maneuvering at my best to avoid the potholes (that have been there for ages), at the same time watching over my back because there's this car tail-gating me (probably annoyed with me for taking so long to get into the turning lane - because I don't want to go over the potholes - you idiot!). Yup..all of a sudden, by the time I switched my attention back to the front...the car in front of me was stationery..! Whoaaaa....! Thank you ABS!

Partially, blaming the coffee that I was having. High on caffein equals impatient driving. Yupe..I am back to coffee. Some months (last year?) I was bragging about quitting coffee for good. I couldn't remember why I had to quit then and come on..coffee is such a great invention. Since I can't take tea....coffee is the only indulgence I have. As a result...it's slowly coming back to me now..why I had to stay off coffee then :(

Back then, I was getting a tad bit worried about a consistent bad throat and occassional dry coughing ..(got a bit more worried when I started to spit out phlegm with tiny weeny bit of blood in the morning)...the doctors adviced me to stay away from coffee and spicy food.

Months went past..and I forgot all about that la. Happily went back to a cuppa a day :) and yupe..the symptoms are back!

Darn...

Geetha : Looking at the bigger picture now ..... I get it! What soup was it?

SL :it's not about the soup lar -_-
Geetha : ok .. you had to help clean the table?
Geetha : you guys help bring so much of colour to me day ... so funny! cheers!

Mini Notebook (Tested)

Ya ya..I am suppose to be at 'war' with some data now but I just wanna say my piece about the much talk about mini notebooks nowadays. (The other window screen is actually Working while I am typing this ...ok?) I had a chance to work on a mini notebook yesterday evening while helping KLL with setting up her blog. Note: The above is not exactly what I worked on yesterday....just something I plucked randomly from the Net...as usual lousy blogger here..didn't have any camera to snap pictures of it. How de heck do I know that KLL has switched to a mini notebook..so canggih that woman!

Anyway..it was not very nice to use lar.

Everything is so small.

Some of my favourite quick keys are missing from the keyboard. I can't find my favourite HOME key. PAGE UP/ DOWN keys merged with the ARROW keys...meaning..I had to use the Fn key..to page up down..defeats the purpose isn't it.

And..arggh..by the end of the 2 hours..I had this feeling that every organ on (and in) my head (MY POOR EYES especially) had been squeezed and crammed into a very tight space..because I was straining so Hard to look into the small screen!

I actually thought I had problems getting my co-ordinations back on track when I was at the combat class later in the night..ha ha ..exaggerating a little here.

Back to War

He he..KT thinks my previous post was out of whack (moh lei tao). Well..I do these things when I have nothing specific to blog about. It is still a subject matter...The Gem of Life is indeed one of the most talked about TVB series in the Chinese entertianment circle currently. KT also asked if I can do away without posting an entry each day?? May be I've gotten too used to dropping by each day or I am just too IDLE here ??

Anyway...I will most likely be in warzone tomorrow onwards. If you don't see any entry here..means I have successfully switched to high speed gear - productively fighting the war.

Damn..I am feeling soooooo rustyyyyy!

Gem Of Life

The latest TVB drama series "The Gem of Life" is so stylo. Since the show is about Pak Siu Yan (Lee Sze Kei) wanting to marry off her precious daughters to the wealthiest family, the whole show will have lots of scenes of lifestyle of the rich and famous. Sports cars...yachts...handsome men, beautiful ladies...*drool*

Naturally, the cast is represented by stylo actors/ actresses.

Leading role : Le Sze Kei - full of charisma - I like! Ada Choi - Beautiful yet Charismatic - I like too

Bowie Lam - Mature, Handsome & Charismatic!

Maggie Siu - liked her since I was a kid - charismatic, mature & poised!

The Secret

Why am I still blogging..cos' I am still waiting for 'weapons' to enter the 'warzone' o_o

I mentioned last year (when I was about to go on post surgery medical leave) that I am going to attempt to re-discover my old hobby - Reading. I don't think I succeeded :( Since then, I only finished 2 miserable books! One from Amy Tan another from (....forgotten). Abandoned another one half way.

Currently, struggling to finish (not even half way through) John Grisham's The Partner which I took from Jason like a year ago! Pathetic...

I will try harder....it's just so difficult to get quiet and AWAKE moments. On weekdays...I am only home early on Wednesdays ..and I realised that the earlier I get home..the earlier I will be dozing off! On other weekdays...I will be either home late from gym or TC or outings...by the time I finish the papers..and TV series or news....eyes will be closed by then :p

Well I guess ..weekends are better for reading...(I hope). The TV programmes were lousy last night. So, I was Reading! Chris got me this book recently. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

Quite a hype some time ago..but never too late to start. Chris must have noticed my 'roller coaster' mood lately...by giving me this book....she hopes that I will discover The Secret to making further Changes to my Life :) Verdict: I fell asleep after 30 mins :D Don't worry Chris..I will finish it...and I am already starting to practice the Law of Attraction.

Quote...The Law states: I attract to myself, whatever I give my focus, attention, or energy to; whether wanted or unwanted. If you think about being broke, poor, lonely and believe your thoughts guess what? That is exactly what you'll be. This Law applies to your life and every other person's life on the planet. Like all laws, it is impartial and impersonal, which means it works when you want it to and when you don't want it to...Unquote.

Weekend Escapade

As you know....I 'ran away' from the office on Friday for a lil escapade. As expected..when one is mentally weak and is roaming about aimlessly in the mall...the "credit card comes to the rescue".

Total damages around $250 excluding meals. Yikes...and I forgot I need to swipe for the ceiling fans later part of the weekend. Total total damages close $700!!! Die!!!

I also took up an offer to upgrade my visa card to a platinum ..since it is Free. No catch. COmpletely free on 1st year. Second year onwards ..I just have to swipe 12 times a year..sap sap sui lar. No idea on the credit limit as I won't be spending so much anyway. NOw, the problem is transferring all my current direct debit to the new card -_- The sales guy was complaining that..nowadays it is so diffcult to get someone to entertain them.. ..I told him..."well when it is FREE we will entertain...plus I am also mentally Free today oso "

We also made it to Pudu Wai Sek Kai (Pudu food street) for dinner. It's all hawker food. For me..their trademark is probably their 'cocki-ness'.. everyone seems to be 'fierce and angry' with their customers.

Fried radish cake - super delicious....best I've ever tasted in life. but...no service with a smile.."you wait 15-20 minutes la..better still if you come collect youself" O_O

Chicken feed (stewed I think) - also very nice. Note the 'out of shape plate' that they don't bother to replace. It is found in another very busy stall selling chee cheong fun and other stuff. The chee cheong fun that comes in curry pig skin is also very nice..so nice that I forgot to snap a picture of it :)) Lousy blogger I am !

The pork noodles are also very famous (according to the owner) but.... we were seated at a wrong table....have to switch tables if want to eat pork noodles..too lazy to do tat..after all..stomach getting full.

Instead..I made PPL order this for me.

"Multi parts" of the pig soup (zhu jap tong) - in case you can't see what's in it - there is the pig's tongue, small intestine, big intestine, blood, kidney! Taste wise..so so only..but satisfied my 'craving' for pork.

There are more pictures of the place with Jane. Not sure if she will load them though.

Oh ya..there is also this stall that sells very tasty fried chicken....thanks to PPL who went to Queue Up just so we can try a piece of it. VERY NICE eventhough..we were very very full by then!

Saturday's dinner was at D'Italiane Kitchen @ Jaya 33. I've come across many articles and blogs about this place. So..thought we give it a try. The ambience and environment is very nice. I am not a fan of Italian food..but I found myself liking the food! Er...wondering why there are no pictures...he he..lousy blogger here forgot to bring camera :p Attemped to snap some using WK's phone..didn't turn out well :( To make up for it..here's a blog about the place that I picked randomly from the net .

Lastly..Sunday meetup with the CS gals was great fun! We met at Jaya One Old Town Kopi Tiam. Food's nothing to shout about..but I picked this place becos of the location and the space. And of course..we maximised the space..by creating enough noise pollution. Quorum : 8 out of 10 invited..not too bad at all! Two surprise turn up by Gurmeet and Mindy who abandoned their 'personal commitments' to be here. Nothing beats Mindy's surprise grand entrance cos we were originally told she will be attending classes for her coming mega exams till evening! Tsk tsk tsk! Elena, Gurmeet, SY(+ Ashley), Gazel, Anne, Fidah, Mindy - a good mix of Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh - well...aren't we proud to be Malaysians. I personally think it is getting very difficult to find such good Muhibbah group nowadays! By the way..we have not met up before 2008...meaning..we've been out of touch for the last 18 years. Thanks to the great Facebook...we slowly got reconnected since last year...for good I hope. For the records, to date we have 200 members in the main Convent Sentul Old Girls (CSOG) facebook group and 28 are from Class 1990 itself! Bravo..!

Oh ya..I tested the Suzuki Sx4 on Saturday!

Verdict: Well..I still absolutely in-love with it. It's $89K+. Damn stylish. Latest trend. But..it's not so practical ler. Fuel consumption not as good relatively. Interior ain't great too. So...no go lor.

SOURCE

ARGHHH......one of those days where I wish I can dissappear into thin air in a POOOFFF!!! Unfortunately, I don't have magical power to do so..but I will dissappear from this shitty zone soon (for the day only). Nahh...won't bitch in details. Against my 'blogging principles"..no bitching about individuals or work specific matters. Whoaa..it will be dangerous hanging out in the mall in my current mood ...I will end up spending and spending man! Help....
The weekend will be an interesting one.
Jane's birthday get-together tonight - hopefully it won't rain and we will get to go to Pudu to eat dirty hawker food - one of our favourite past time back in those crazy days. Haven't done that for a long long long time.
Will be having dinner with tai kor Raymond tomorrow night - a little ex-MBL get together ..10th anniversary!! Met this bunch in my first firm..back in 1997/8...we used to slog together alot...working late nights, weekends and of course not forgetting our after office meals and drinks. It's just amazing that we still keep in touch despite having moved on with our own lives.

Sunday - another meet up with some secondary school mates. I don't know why everything's gotta happen together..on one weekend (??).
and..sigh...next week ..back to shitty battle zone. How the heck to battle when I don't even have 'weapons'???!!

Post Lasik - 1st Anniversary

Greetings!

Today not so good day for me lar. My beauty sleep was interrupted by a nagging pain from a stiff neck. It was only 5am! Damn it. Luckily, I went to bed quite early the night before..so I had enough sleep technically :) Went to the sinseh to get some 'maintenance' done...feeling much better by now. And..I had a Double Cheese Burger for lunch today but for some reasons it doesn't feel enough. Appetite very good nowadays....hormones?? Today is BC day..need sufficient energy to last through. Last week, I nearly fainted in class cos' I didn't take any snack to fuel up before class.

Ok..enough of rubbish talk. This post is dedicated to lasik. I am due for my 1st year annual checkup upon discharge. What does that mean?

Well, post surgery patients will be monitored closely via weekly, bi-weekly, monthly..etc. All these check ups are free until they are satisfied with the eye condition and patients will normally be officially 'discharged' by the 6th or 7th months. I did mine in April 2007 and was discharged in October. So..I am due for the annual check up this Saturday!

The annual check up fee is RM50 per visit. Now..the 'catch' is....as long as we do not lapse on these check ups...our 'eyesight' is under-warranty. Meaning..if we re-develop short sightedness again in later stage of our life...we can opt to re-do the treatment at zero cost provided one sufficient cornea thickness for the surgeon to cut so many times lar.

Hmm..why am I dwelling on these technicalities?? Lost my flow a bit. Let me take a toilet break..to re-collect my thoughts.

(PAUSE)

I am back..but this is not working out lar. Completely lost my flow.....this is gonna be a lousy post. It's all over the place.

What the heck. Anyway..back track to 2006. I was actually the first one who started pondering about doing lasik and this Mag practically 'splashed of cold water on my face' with a comment that I can't seem to trace back now. Anyway..she said something in the likes of...."after a few years..we will all have long sighted..and will need glasses again..so why waste money" Sounded right..so stopped thinking about it lor. After the treatment is so freaking expensive.

Come November 2006, Mag returned for a 3 months break..and she was all hyped up about doing the treatment! She even did all the necessary research and has decided what type of treatment she wants, which doctor she wants at which centre etc. That's Mag..one of the most extra-ordinary friend I have!

And..so..thanks to Mag..we (Mag, Chris, Jenny and myself) made an appointment, oh no, rephrase -- Mag made appointments for all four of us to get an intro check up at the Optimax centre. In a matter of weeks, Mag and Chris did their eyes followed by Jenny.

Me? oh..as usual..your friend here procrastinating king. Bloody expensive lar..RM6,000 ah! I think I was scouting for the right credit card that gives longer instalment period. Was trying to get OCBC which gives 36 months (i.e. RM100+ per mth only) but they gave me so much problems I dumped them. Finally.. I managed to get a MBB card that gives 24 months. I finally did mine in April 2007! Ya ya...took so many months to get a credit card approved (*rolling eyes*) Six thousand ringgit sounds alot..but hey..ti's worth it....you enjoy the results instantly..even before leaving the operating table! And with instalment plans..you only pay a couple of hundreds a month!

So..that was me and my eyes. Following me...a few others went to do it as well!

My sister, Trisha, Trisha's brother and Michelle!
(UPDATED : PPL , Raymond (SG) and Eric (SH) also did it recently)

Well done folks!

Here's to perfect eye sight!
Not exactly perfect la..but no more glasses!

Datukship

Picture Souce: Wikipedia

Shah Rukh Khan according to the wikipedia:

... is a highly acclaimed Indian actor who works in Bollywood films, as well as producer and television host...won thirteen awards, seven of which are in the best actor category.

Datukship on the other hand (according to knowledgerush.com) ... is a federal title has been conferred since 1965 and limited to recipients of PJN (Panglima Jasa Negara) of which there may be up to 200 living at any one time, and PSD (Panglima Setia Diraja) of which there may be up to 70 living at any one time. The PJN and PSN rank 9th and 10th respectively in the rank of federal awards.

The numerical limits apply only to Malaysian subjects.

Foreigners may receive the award in a supernumerary and honorary capacity and use the title locally.

WHERE IS THE CONNECTION HUH??

I would love to find out more about 'how and why the Datukships are awarded" but I don't have the luxury of time here.

I am joining 99% of Malaysian Adults (may be even the World) in wondering aloud...Who in the Right Mind Would Award A Federal Title to A Bollywood Actor??

MELAKA, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Leading Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was conferred a Datukship because he has helped promote Melaka as a tourist destination through one of his movies, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said Saturday. He said the actor had shot scenes of the "One Two Ka Four" Hindi movie at the A Famosa Resort in Alor Gajah several years ago

Kibera

My friend, Mag, is now in Nairobi, Kenya supposedly on vacation visiting her brother. Mag's been travelling... for the past few months we only get occassional updates from her via her facebook updates. I've been communicating more with Mag in the past weeks cos' in Nairobi she is practically home bound when her brother is at work, reason being it is not safe at all to wander out alone. While she started her venture glamorously having visited Massai Mara (the safari I think), beaches at the east coast...Mag being Mag...she decided to get 'up-close & personal' with the place. By that it includes her visit to a HIV centre for kids and yesterday to Kibera slum.

This is taken from Mag's FB album:

Kibera is the largest slum in Kenya and second largest in Africa (some said it's the largest but it really doesn't matter). It is located just 5km outside of the capital center. Apart from its extreme poverty, poor sanitation and living condition, Kibera also has a reputation of being a very rough and dangerous neighborhood, a place that even local Kenyas would avoid. This is also one of the places severly affected during last year's post-election violence in Kenya due to strong tribal tension that persists in the community. More than 1 million people (i.e. over a quarter of Nairobi's population) reside here, an area of only 2 sq km

Well, Mag was a bit discouraged after the experience at the HIV centre but there I was encouraging her to go for it without realising...the real possibilities of things may actually take a bad turn. I became dead worried after logging off last night and was waiting anxiously this morning to see her back online - safe and sound. Thank goodness she is back safe.

Mag -- I am so so glad you went for it. Although, I (*touch wood*) I will be so responsible if anything bad had happened to you but..hey..you made it!

I wish there is a blog that I can link to...but Mag has given up blogging some time ago due to some access problems when she was in China. (FYI - she was the one who started me on bloggin -_-) Anyways, with permission...here are some excerpts from her FB album.

In summary ..here's what she had to say about the visit:

Through an acquiantance who is heavily involved in missionary service in Kenya and Uganda, I had the opportunity visit Kibera slum today. Because of the many horrors I have been told and read about this place (violence, tribal tension, unbearably poor sanitation, diseases of all sorts and highly HIV prone), it had taken me a week to mental preparation before this visit, thanks to WSL who's been very encouraging and supportive. I came out of Kibera with very mixed feelings which I find difficult to share in words (or monologue) here, but I thought a picture tells a thousand words. Didn't dare bring my camera into the slum (again was warned), but managed to snap some pictures using my N73. Do bear with the poor picture quality as many shots were taking in low lighting. Many of us have seen similar images in news and movies, but getting up-close and personal evokes an entirely different emotion. I hope this album serves as a reminder for us to take gratitude of what we have, no matter how bad life might seem at times.

We both think it's good to create some awareness on the subject matter .

Body Combat vs. Tai Chi

WK's comments on my 'Mad Driver' entry prompted me to have a quick write on this topic. At this juncture, I'm not sure how exactly I am going about this. Let me have a try...will delete if the end result is rubbish.

Well, I realised that I tend to be a more impatient these days. As WK puts it..blood seems to be boiling faster than usual. I felt so bad yesterday..for slamming the washing machine so hard all because my dad was nagging behind my back while I was doing the laundry. I AM SORRY!

I've been wondering if I've been confusing myself mentally by juggling the two activities. Tai chi is serious & slow and requires alot of calmness and concentration while Body Combat gets the adrenalin pumping and is physically demanding & loads of fun. My 'schedule' as follows:

  • monday - TC
  • tuesday - BC
  • wednesday - REST
  • thursday - BC then TC
  • friday - REST (sometimes go BC if I have absolutely nothing to do)
  • saturday - free n easy (can be anything - from doing nothing to badminton to eating or to the gym)
  • sunday - TC then BC

I admit that I enjoy BC more than TC...after all I am still young ma. Of course, I'd prefer something that is fast and furious. As I've said many times....TC is a long term investment that I hope to see some 'returns' in 5-10 years time. Hence, it will naturally require some discipline and sacrifices along the way.

Now..did I get you all confused with all this BC and TC mentions....

So..is there any scientific write up to prove that mixing the two can affect mental 'stability' ah? If you come across any..do share with me :)

Your Age By Eating Out

Got this from an email. It's Freaky!

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN ....
It takes less than a minute.
Work this out as you read. (You'll need a calculator)!
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat. (more than once but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5
4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758... If you haven't, add 1757.
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.
The first digit of this was your original number.
( I. e., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2008) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS

Mad Driver

SOURCE
Apologies..if you happened to be annoyed by a mad driver in a Kia Spectra weaving in and out of traffic along Jalan Semangat heading towards Amcorp Mall - that was ME! Almost bumped into a Proton Perdana that suddenly jammed brake and slightly 'kissed' the Toyota Vios in front of it. Phew! Minutes after that..while speeding to hit the the green light to turn towards Amcorp...another emergency screech to avoid bulldozing into a Perodua Viva W(--) 6117 that decided to STOP for dunno what reason..(to check to see if the light is really green issit?).

This is not my usual driving ler...it's just one of those occassion when I was caught in the traffic again this morning. Not only along LDP but in SS2 heading towards the Rothmans roundabout. Grrrrrrr...!!! This roundabout occasionally has unpredictable 'bottlenecks' for not visible reasons. Can someone enlighten me?

As for the LDP..what else is new? The Star reported today that.."the Government is studying a proposal for an alternative highway to the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP), which has now reached full traffic capacity".

full capacity means collected enough toll lar? need more highway ka for more toll issit??

Mama..mia..

Aaggh..greetings. I am back! I had to force myself to get some 'real work' done before getting down to trash blogging again. Well, to be very honest, what I 'accomplished' today were no rocket science...somehow..took me longer than before to get a grip. Either the requirement has gotten tougher or I am really losing it. I am quite convinced it is the latter. Die!

I received this weird sms this morning:

"If u go Carrefour this weekend, pls buy 4 me frozen buffalo 900g @$7.99. 6 packets. Thanks"

Weird or not?? At 1st glance I thought it's some spam message. Then I realised it's actually from my sister. But...why would she wants to buy FROZEN BUFFALOES?? Took me a while to decipher..she actually meant frozen beef. See?? Am I losing it? Or..people around me losing it?
(Now, Mag's telling me over MSN that she nearly burnt down the kitchen because she forgot all about her boiling kettle)...crazy ppl I have around me :D

Anyway..how was your day? Yupe..it's Friday again. Weekend!

My horoscope says this today:

Though all continues to go well for you (ok....), WSL, your mood may go up and down today (true oso..).
In spite of all the great things going on in your life (thank you God for what I have), sometime during the day you might find yourself feeling a little blue (mm mm). Don't read too much into it.
It's probably just the result of low biorhythms (out of sight out of mind).
Try to distract yourself with work, and in the evening get out with some friends and have a good time (no kaki today ler).

No outing for me tonight. Can't find kaki. Will be dropping by cousin's place to pass on some books to his kids. Got myself invited for dinner naturally. Yea..home cooked food and it's free! Good oso ..been spending too much eating n drinking last few weeks :p

Oh ya...Mama Mia! I am not a musical person, never was. As a kid..I'd be frowning and sulking and yawning when my siblings and cousins crowd around the TV watching The Sound of Music. Till now..I don't find it entertaining. Ironically, my crazy F5 classmates got me into performing in the school's golden jubilee concert - SINGING through some songs from The Sound of Music (Goodness!!!..those were the worse moments of my school going life!!!).

But..I've decided to check out Mama Mia..since there is so much hype about it. I am Ready for Change remember? I need to do something different to end this monotonous 2008.

Was trying to book tickets online. There were like 6 steps to go through...and we got stuck god knows how many times in Step 2 or 3. Grr...! This error mesage kept appearing (whatever it means):
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'
Script timed out
/buynow.asp
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.
I tried numerous time..and ran out of steam. Luckily, Felicia took over and managed to get through. But still gotta wait 3 working days for confirmation. The Star reported today that the responses were overwhelming hence resulted in technical glitches in the online ticketing system.
Ok..now I am running out of steam with this post..pretty much note down what I want to say for the day.
Have a nice weekend folks!

Pondering again..

Today was a pretty quiet day for me...was in quite a somber mood pondering again ..until Mag came online and got me all entertained & tickled with her ever so exciting stories and "future plans". Now..I can't find the mood to start this :) Let me try slowly..to get back into the mood.

I can't believe we are approaching the end of 2008! I barely did anything! What a waste of time! The good thing about keeping a blog or diary is that it is easy to flasback on events and happenings over time. With blogs it is even easier..can click by month, events, etc. For the records, I started blogging in July 2005! Three long years liao! Wa lau eh!

Oh ya..discovered facebook in July 2007..still loving it. It is a great way to re-connect with old friends. May not be active all the the time...but at least the 'connections' are there Linked provided the other party logs on regularly lar. Just 2 days ago I re-connected with an old friend (Jordan) whom I met in secondary school..and found out that he has one existing mutual friend with me and 2 other which I also knew and will add on soon! What a small world.

So..back to me and my boring life. Yep..have not done much this year. Did a quick check on my past entries here....almost ZERO in 2008. Pathetic compared to previous years. Not that previous years were great but..relatively 2008 is lousy man!

TRAVEL
Only made it to Langkawi in July this year. I realised that my travelling destinations gets more pathetic as I age. Watch this:

  • Y2000 @ Vancouver, Canada (cousin's wedding)
  • Y2002 @ Bangkok, Thailand (brother's wedding)
  • Y2003 @ Nepal
  • Y2004 @ Hong Kong & Taman Negara, Malaysia
  • Y2005 @ Bali, Indonesia
  • Y2006 @ Taipei, Taiwan & Kota Kinabalu, East Malaysia
  • Y2007 @ Beijing, China & casual drive to North Peninsular Malaysia
  • Y2008 @ Langkawi, Malaysia

See what I mean??

We were eyeing Egypt after Nepal ..way back then...by now..cannot afford liao. Commitments lar! Those days free n easy..no home loan..still young..supposedly well paid executive. Easily bought 80K car (2nd car some more) and branded watch without an eye blink. Now..wanna buy Nike shoe also count fingers for so long -_-

Other "Worth Mentioning' Events

  • April 2005 - Nephew Danial born
  • January 2007 - Endometriotic cyst surgery
  • April 2007 - Lasik surgery

Other Leisure Activities

  • Y2005 - Joined a gym
  • Y2006 - Started learning Tai Ci
  • Y2007 - Took Personal Training at gym (*eyes rolling*)
  • Y2008 - Fell in love with Body Combat (*more eyes rolling*)
Only consolation is..I am STILL doing all the above activities...I mean..still gym going and tai ci - ing. Was telling Mag..If I am picked..I may even go for instructorship trainng (tai ci) in 3-4 years time (*more more eyes rolling*)

That's 3-4 years time..meanwhile what do I do to spice up my life??
